Nobody ever said that.
What he did say was that there’s no way for him to know if he’s elite, because he still hasn’t seen any senior film. He also restated that about 18 minutes ago, in response to LSU fans starting threads about him.

Texas A&M has never won anything and never will win anything. That’s why people assume they were pushing boundaries. Also Jimbo’s tantrum plus pretty much every SEC coach taking Saban’s side all but confirmed it

The correct question is this. Why is TAF so poor and drawn out that they can't compete with The REC?
Or maybe this question. Why does TAF not really give that much of a shite about LSU football? Could it be that Brian Kelly proved beyond the shadow of a doubt why he was at the bottom of Scott Woodward's list when he lost to that gut pile of a team in College Station?
What little money TAF has in its sofa cushions won't be spent on an un-clutch coach like the boy grinder and that's just how it is.

Bama doesn’t and hasn’t ever denied that they buy their class. A&M got all pissy with their coach leading the charge saying that every kid they signed loved A&M and bought in to what they were building. In essence, they lied when they didn’t have to. That’s why folks gave them shite.

No, people wont raise as much of an issue over it since Bama is seen as the blue blood and they are used to it. A&M was the upstart and got such pushback because those at the top dont like when the status quo is threatened and that's why people made such a big deal of it.
If Bama, Ohio St, Georgia, or a few others do it, no big deal but if it's a team that isnt usually up there does (whether its A&M, Arkansas, whoever) you'll see a lot more articles about it.
