This is correct of course but I love the old Herschel Walker glory days. I grew up reading Lewis Grizzard & hearing about the 80s that I was too young to experience. That's the old Athens and is an old Georgia culture that seems to be prevalent statewide in guys 50-60+

That world is long gone now...Kirby's been here 10 YEARS now and made us forget 40 years in the wilderness. But those were my grandpappy's GA Bulldogs and that whole era is slowly leaving us

The fact that the shrimp boat captain won one still is crazy to me.

I remember when Mizzou played Auburn in the SEC championship. We had a really good team, but that game exposed the difference between really good and elite. It was tight until the 4th quarter.

That was a fun year… until the final 13 seconds of the season. That Mizzou game was a score fest and a very close game until the final few minutes.

We actually ought to claim the 1946 season for a natty, maybe even a stronger claim than 1942…

1960–1969 - Ray Graves period. 4th best win pct in SEC. Helped revolutionize passing in the SEC. Spurrier won Heisman.

'83-'85 - first sec title won in '84. Tied for best SEC record in '85 but won H2H vs Vols. Probation would ruin '86-89.

1990-2001 - SOS years

2005-2010 - Urban years

1990-2010 - Winningest program in this period and tied for most national titles with Nebraska.

Non-SEC interloper offering:

A long time ago (sigh).

1. 1971 Game of the Century vs OU

2. 1994 - Finally get over the Miami hurdle and Osborne gets his first national title.

3. 1995 - The Machine. They didn’t simply want the beat the opponent, they sought to destroy the opponent.

Glad I got to experience it. Younger generations of NU fans may never get to experience how fun truly big games and title chases can be. Hope they do.

We’ve had some great moments.

Early times: Mike Donohue was the coach. Won a bunch of games around 1910 to 1925 or so.

We won some big games in the 1930s and 1940s.
We were one of the best teams in the SEC during most of the 1950s

We had some good teams in the 1960s and 1970s.

We won 4 conference titles in the 1980s

Had an undefeated team in the 1990s and 2000s and in 2010.

We’ve been hammered shite since 2020

I often wonder if a coach like Osborne would be given 20+ years to finally get that done at one school these days.

Years and years of 1 and 2 loss seasons can be maddening.

Bobby Bowden was similar, but not nearly as long. He also got closer than Osborne more often.

OSU 2002 National championship vs the U
under Head Coach Jim Tressel

2014 National Championship under Head Coach Urban Meyer

2024 National Championship under Head Coach Ryan Day

Those are just since I’ve been around. Don’t remember anything about the Woody Hayes years. I know he got smoked by Bear Bryant in the Sugar Bowl in the 1970’s. No shame in losing to the best as they say. John Cooper was a fricking disaster in bowl games.

The SEC teams owned Cooper’s dumb arse in the 1990’s.

I used to hate Nebraska (and Bama in SECCG) back then. They were so dominant in the 90s.
I would guide most fanbases did.
Now, I wouldn't mind seeing them good again.

The top 3 winningest programs in the 90s were FSU, Nebraska and UF.
These were the only programs to win 100+games but now all 3 are struggling.
