It was split 50/50 and the crowd reflected that. The games were crazy - half the stadium going wild over every play. I actually prefer the home and home situation, even with the voodoo in JHS. Those half and half games were exhausting.

“There are always local/corporate allotments as well, and Bama fans far outnumber Auburn fans in Birmingham.”

Wrong. There were zero corporate allotments for the game. Not one single ticket. Both schools received at their university the exact same amount of tickets. That rule had been set up when the contract was signed by both schools. That was a mandatory requirement by Auburn when it was signed.

Sounds like an excuse for losing to me.

"His foot was in bounds."

"It was raining."

"Our stadium was at half capacity due to covid (even though you haven't lost here in nearly a decade)."

"We fired our coach."

Both fan bases coexisted pretty well
at the Tide andv Tiger Lounge across the street from Legion Field. Masisve
beer consumption. Of course, I am dating myself. How .many of you remember the Tide and Tiger?

To the question at hand, the tickets were split 50/50.

There was an even split but that was about split of about 80% of the tickets...another 20% went to the City of Birmingham who distributed them as they saw fit....most of them wound up in the hands of Bama fans because Birmingham, at least in those days, was an all Bama town...this was always a big complaint the Barners had....Bama fans were always outdrawing them at Legion.

Correct. Most years it was roughly 60/40 give or take.

One of the reasons ou/tx IS a special rivalry game is it’s not easy to maintain these neutral-site split-stadium games over periods of time. You need 2 consistently good to great programs with large/passionate fan bases or it fades away one way or the other…

Look at what A&M/ark tried to do… etc.. so many have tried to make it a thing but it doesn’t work

The split stadium experience in cfb though is unmatched when it’s done right

Two equally matched, high quality teams (in an equally filled split stadium). There’s nothing more cfb than that and the games are crazy bc momentum swings are huge

TX/OU has been the most consistent rivalry for delivering this cfb unique experience
