I actually agree with this. I think everything from the playoff to rule changes were done to weaken Saban’s grip on the sport.

2011 or so, after the foolish college refs RAN THE BALL BACK to the LOS to stop defenses from being allowed to set up, the whole game became a farce. The NFL walked the ball back to the LOS and thus its basically the same game of strategy. It got so bad the only defense that could be played was base defense. That destroyed the game
The chump lawyers destroyed what was left. Only the naive still think it is a game worth watching now.

2019 was amazing and feels like the last year of true college football but honestly the older I get the more it feel like 2005 Rose bowl was the pinnacle.

I’d say the biggest indicator of beginning of the end was 1. Gearing game to offense and finesse with spread and pussifing the defense mice violence, 2. then the next big change was transfer rules changing, 3. then NIL shite.
Targeting and stoping the destruction of boys daring to cross the middle of the field without the absolutely perfectly timed route. Weeded out a lot of what made a good football player, fast agile and built like a brick house. Rules changed to the dainty fast af and breakable players getting a leg up on the grown men that would punish them was the beginning. Then all Hell broke loose with transfer portal give and inch they take a mile. The ground is lost cf is just semi pro now.
I still love it but not as much and my weekends are no longer ruled by what I used to love with the passionate and dedicated college player just waiting to break out. Seemed most teams had a 4th year jr that was hurt or behind a stud just waiting to Break out for the team.
Miss the loyalty and dedication and watching the freshman grow as the years go by.
I think probably 2017 maybe? Maybe 2016? But peak was 2000-2008ish maybe 2011 for my bias

I think the sport peaked in the mid-1980s and last felt like true college football around 2003.

Lmao. What pussies...
I only brought that up because you idiots pick and choose when it’s convenient to bring up injured players. Truth must be your kryptonite because that’s all I spoke and you lost your damn mind as expected.

2011
If I could freeze college football in terms of format, conferences and everything else, I would pick 2011.

About 15 years after the inaugural ESPN broadcast. ESPN is responsible for the state of college football in my opinion

When all the piped in music started getting played in stadiums and it stopped being the bands. To me that has changed the atmosphere and feel of college football more than anything.

Here's some 'truth' for ya....you're a lifeless Ohio St fan that is not wanted or welcome on this SEC forum and your opinion means nothing to us anyway, so go away.

College football has NEVER been real football. The entire history of college football has been one written by cheaters. It has always consisted of a handful of schools willing to cheat the rules to beat up on other schools in a totally different level of player. And the idea that fans still accept schools like Bama playing LA-Monroe and UGA playing Austin Peay shows it’s not a legit sport.
Eventually, the new sport that arises from all these changes may be considered legit when similar schools play each other instead of having in season scrimmages. And with everyone now able to cheat on the same level the talent pool will slowly level which will make the games more watchable.
Sure, I have my team I root for but the reality is I want college football to be a legit sport. And legit sports have teams that have up and down seasons and a few surprises. And that only happens in a fair system. Letting 10 schools buy all the best high school players and then holding them hostage so the same teams win year after year is not legit. Saban is the GOAT CEO of the bagman system but he is far fr9m the GOAT coach. I don’t forget how average he was at MSU and Miami. Saban doesn’t compare to a guy like Jimmy Johnson who won big at all levels.

Well, that was a bunch of meaningless rambling. You been hitting the sauce tonight, bro? You start out talking about the downfall of college football because of corruption and end up putting down Saban and comparing him to Jimmy Johnson. Ooooookay...If you would have gone on another paragraph I suppose you'd have been telling us about how to make a custom Vango bracelet in northern Madagascar?
