2013 SEC Championship Game. If we managed to win we would’ve went to the National Championship against FSU
2007 Big12 Championship Game. A win here puts us in the National Championship's as the #1 team against Ohio State

1. 1965 Cotton Bowl. 10-7 loss to Nebraska to end a 22 game win streak and the 2nd consecutive (and only unanimous) NC

Ok? 1989 Tennessee lost their game to Bama by 3 touchdowns in the OP

Still don't know why Fullmer let Casey Clausen pass on 3 downs when he had 1st and goal on the 4, down 24-17, with 10:15 left in the 4th, and SEC leading rusher Travis Stephens in the backfield. Mind-boggling.

2012 SEC Championship. If Georgia can punch it in at the end it is very likely they beat Notre Dame in the Championship Game, Marc Richt is not fired when he was and likely retires oin his own accord due to his health concerns in a few years. Kirby would have probably gone to South Carolina and who knows where Georgia is at coaching wise.

1/9/12. Would have had LSU with 4 and Alabama with 5 Natty’s for the Century.
I don’t buy this. Yes, 1/9/12 changed everything, but 2019 was the end of that dead period. If LSU knocks off Alabama for the title, Les basically stays as long as he wants, and it throws the timeline completely off as far as getting the studs for the 2019 team. Les, with 2 titles, would definitely remain stubborn with his ground and pound offense. We likely don’t land Burrow, or even go after him, and that season never happens.
Honestly, the embarrassment of 1/9/12 was worth what we saw in 2019.

For Auburn it's the 1988 Earthquake game at LSU.
Our defense was nasty that year. We only gave up 79 points all year and half of those were scored late against the second and third stringers. You couldn't run the ball on us.
During the earthquake game, going into the final drive LSU had something like 2 first downs, 60 yards of total offense and hadn't crossed midfield once. Then they pulled a miraculous drive where they converted three crazy unlikely 4th downs including the game winner to beat us 7-6.
Auburn would have played Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl for the natty and we would have beaten them. They were good, but that wishbone wouldn't have worked against us and they weren't prepared for SEC athletes in the Superdome. Pat Dye wins a natty and we build momentum.

I don’t know, the “SEC athlete/speed” wasn’t really a thing then. The top 3 teams in the country were pretty damn solid that year. FSU (as you said, they beat Auburn), was hammered by Miami in the opener, then won out. Miami only had 1 loss, the controversial 31-30 game against ND. ND goes undefeated, racking up wins over then-ranked #’s 1,2, and 3.
Obviously, Auburn had an incredible defense. As a neutral observer, I think Auburn’s closer call was in 1983, but that was such a wild scenario at the end with Miami, Nebraska, Auburn, Texas, and Georgia all having just 1 loss.

I think 2019 was the football God’s way of helping us exorcise the demons of 1/9/12.

That has to be one of the most painful losses of all time, considering the ramifications. The Bluegrass Miracle stung mightily, but we didn’t have all that Ole Miss did riding on the outcome.

True but if you watch the game we were leading in the 4th and suddenly Auburn just exploded. Stopped us on 4th down backed up on our own goal line. It was way closer than the final score.

Ya that game imploded. 2007 and 2013 ccgs would have sent us to winnable NCGs. 2023 Georgia might be a sleeper here also.
None of that matters now. Everyone is in the same boat navigating rule changes and it looks like the big city schools have a clear edge as things stand. Pretty much everything that makes college football great is going to be a handicap going forward.

He also damn near killed the players by over-practicing them before the game. That game was 100% Les’ fault. LSU could have easily been competitive and possibly won that game.

No offense, but you all didn't get either wire service championship in 1964 so it certainly wasn't "unanimous"...
You all got screwed on that for sure. However pre bowl NCs were how it worked back then. ... but please don't claim a "unanimous" championship when it wasn't.

Not landing Burrow... if you remember, Burrow's choices were LSU and Cincinnati. And that was before Cincy had made the playoffs or joined the Big 12, they were in the AAC then.
And Les had already established LSU as a destination for transfer QBs, you had Mettenberger (UGA), and Danny Etling (Purdue), who both transferred in and started. Hell, LSU was known to be stacked at every position but vacant at QB, so people wanted to come in and take over.
And when Les trusted his QB (Jamarcus, Flynn, Mett), he let him pass.

Yup. Thats the one. Sent Bama climbing and Texas circling the toilet

For the Malzahn era, he was never the same after AU lost to A&M in 2014. Even with the spurts of success like in 2017, he still ended that year with 2 bad losses. Gus lost his mojo and never got it back.
