What could cause that kind of a drop off? Schedule? Injuries? Lack of focus? Lack of effort? Sense of entitlement? Coaching? NIL checks bounced?

Probably the same reason Alabama finished 9-6 ---- they played half their games against teams that went to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 and one of the few teams better than them ended up ending their season.

Resume was bare and they got better as the year went on. They weren't a Top 10 quality team the first 6 weeks of the season. BYU similar.

Your answer is schedule.

But Alabama started the season 14-3 and was
5-3 against tournament teams. There were some chinks in the armor early on. They then finished the season 14-6.

Alabama started 14-3 and finished 14-6.

Auburn started 21-1 and finished 11-5.

You like numbers so you should see the difference there.

During that 21-1 start Auburn beat these tournament teams: Houston (@ Houston),, Iowa State (neutral), North Carolina (neutral), Memphis (neutral), Purdue (murdered them in B’ham), Texas (@ texas), Mississppi State (home), Georgia (@ Georgia), Tennessee (home). Their only loss was at Duke.

That is a 9-1 against tournament teams. And they beat multiple elite 8 teams.

They finished the regular season 5-3 against tournament teams and 11-5 overall against tourney teams.

They didn’t just start playing tough teams the second half of the season. But they did start losing to them. Something changed.

Like someone else noted, I think they started listening to how great they were.

Alabama and Auburn had the top 2 strength of schedule this season.

In their first 22 games they played and went:

Auburn: 10 tournament teams; 21-1

Alabama: 14 tournament teams: 19-3

In their last games they finished:

Auburn: 16 tournament teams, 11-5

Alabama: 15 tournament teams, 9-6

For whatever the reason, that 21-1 start didn’t hold out.

My guess would be Broome and CBM injuries. Lack of depth. Tired out at the end. Whatever excuse suits you

Is this the thread where people act like 32 wins and a trip to the F4 was a bad season?
