Bad hire. He was a good defensive coordinator 10-15 years ago, but the game has changed a lot since then.

It just further reinforced 0 won the lottery with Burrell and Brady and, in fact, does not have a clue as to how last season happened.

I thought he’d be great at LSU, would get along with CEO and keep the D clicking.

I hadn't followed his career lately and was just going off of his previous stint at LSU

Thought it would have been a good hire 7-10 years ago. Kinda like when Chad hired Chavis, I thought it was a hire that was a big name but was probably past their prime.

Remembering Bo Pelini in the old Big 12

I was shocked. Seemed like a weird fit

This is the same thing when Odom hired Dooley as the OC. The exact same reason why ADs/HCs shouldn't hired anyone that was a huge failure in the past.

I personally thought that it was a risky hire.
He was lights out as your DC last stint. He was considerably better as HC at Nebraska than anyone they have had since.
However Auburn hasn't had the best of luck with former head coaches coming back as coordinators. Muschamp was great recruiting for a year but the defense was nothing to write home about. And Chad Morris has been less than fantastic as OC so far. So I wasn't sure what it would look like...
I thought it would be WORLDS better than what you have gotten so far.

Been slipping before Pelini got there, should be a decent scapegoat for O
Are they though. I mean do t get me wrong they’re not good right now but we keep saying Bama and LSU defense has been slipping but maybe this is just the way football will be played from now on. I hate it but it’s not going to change. Look at what Bama did to Georgia’s defense and they have elite players. I just don’t think it’s possible. I think what Bamas defense did to Clemson in 2016 is about as close as you can get toshutting down an elite offense in today’s game but by the fourth qtr thanks to our endemic offense they had nothing left.

Better than when we gave the job to O, but that turned out ok.

Cool memes with him in LSU Christmas sweaters holding his cat

I thought it would be fun to see how long it took before he committed assault on the sidelines.
I did not think the product would look so bad.

Washed up hire that doesn't understand spread offenses. LSU should've went after a young DC that has been around the spread most of his career.

Odd hire. His Nebraska teams were not defensive stalwarts in a more traditional offensive conference.
Plus, culturally, he doesn't seem a great fit. Coach seems to give off an empathetic, one of the boys, family (firm but fair and always take care of our own) vibe, as does the majority of his staff. Bo gives off a douchey, a-hole, "I'm right, wrong," drunken, bullying uncle, toxic sort of vibe.

Interested in other fanbases' perspectives.
At first I was stunned by what seemed like an incomprehensibly bad hire: he hadn't even been coaching in FBS for the last few years, his defenses at Nebraska weren't that good and even at LSU it seemed like he struggled with the few SEC offenses that were creative at the time (Florida spread and Arkansas with their wildcat stuff). But then I let people reassure me by saying he had some success at Nebraska against spread teams. Basically, always go with your gut instinct
I thought it was a great hire at the time. I may be in the minority but I thought Nebraska was a bunch of pussies for getting rid of him. Basically over PC stuff.
Not that they were winning championships with him but they were respectful. Since then they have absolutely sucked something awful. Scott frost has basically been a bust.
