I suppose defensive and offensive rankings are among the statistics Sagarin uses, but I know they aren't the only criteria. I think there he uses a lot of different criteria to calculate his ratings.

The defensive and offensive rankings in that Sporting News article was not an indicator that it's how the Sagarin ratings were determined. I only mentioned it as an aside because I had already said that the fact the LSU defense finished in the lower half of its own conference would impact its case in a consideration of best teams. The fact it was the lowest of all those in the top 10 would seem to bolster my contention. Sporting News evidently thought defensive and offensive rankings were some important or else they would not have listed them. I'm not sure how anybody could argue it's not important. After all, a lot of LSU fans boast about the offense. The flip side is that in comparison to other contenders of greatest team that the defense wasn't very good. It only stands to reason that the greatest team will be well balanced and very good on both sides of the ball. Of course you think LSU was best, because you're a LSU fan. Most unbiased sports publications just don't agree with you.

This was my great-grandfathers most memorable ...... when the USC Trojans defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in the 1940 Rose Bowl, scoring the only points achieved on the Volunteers all season, ending their 23-game win streak. They were crowned as national champions by the Dickinson System, which is designated as an NCAA "major selector" of national champions.

Burrow 18 - 20 in the first half vs Bama.

Reading every week " they haven't faced a defense like us"

Florida fans thinking Alpaca was better than Joe until LSU played Texas.

Aggy knowing it was over in the first quarter.

Burrow's scramble vs Georgia, throwing a completion to Jefferson. From a pure football perspective, it's probably the best singular qb play of the season.

Anything Clyde did.

Considering the woes the team had in defense, I find this unlikely.

Despite your trying to convince people, I would bet that LSU would give anything to be able to say what Alabama can say.

Alabama has won at least 1 NC every decade since 1920, with the exception of the 1950's and 1980's

Alabama has a winning record over every team they have played 10 or more times

Alabama has won an SEC title every decade since the conference started (and is the only team that can say that.)

Those facts alone prove Alabama is the greatest college football team of all-time.

Relax my friend. Let them have it.

Alabama can comfort themselves with the greatest college football program of all time, and LSU can have the greatest team of all time.

I am quite relaxed. The fact that LSU has to continually boast about last year and their win over Alabama shows how deep Alabama is in their minds. I find it funny, since I have LSU alumni in my family (two of them played football at LSU)

The best part of this thread has been watching other fans use hyperbole or point to other teams’ accomplishments...

All references to LSU 2019 are just people listing facts and it’s still more impressive

My favorite play from the greatest football team of all time?

This play, and no other play even comes close.

Every week we heard the same thing.

Florida, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Bama, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Georgia, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Texas, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Aggy, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Auburn, "they haven't played a defense like us".

Clemson, "they haven't played a defense like us".

I find it highly likely they heard the same crap.

From an easy win- I’d say the sequence at the end of the first half against Tiny Nick and A1bana. The touchdown, interception and touchdown in a blink of an eye.

From a more challenging game- I’d say when Burrow went over to the Vandy sideline and was talking trash to their whole team.

It'll always be this one for me. I think they lose the game without that conversion and no telling how that affects the rest of the season.
