If an LSU fan says anything other than the 2011 BCS title game, they are lying. It took 8 years, an undefeated national championship season, and a Heisman winning QB to put that disaster in the rear view mirror.

21-0 hurt especially because of the stakes and how the game transpired, but I would say 2012 was much more heartbreaking. The way the 2012 game was lost, after the atmosphere and everything surrounding it, was truly crushing. If LSU wins in 2012 it doesn't make up for the embarrassment of the National Championship game, but it does a ton for the psyche of the program and the fanbase.

Agreed. Also, most people don't remember, even after that heartbreaking loss, we still skull-phucked Ole Miss, Arkansas and A&M.
If we hang on and beat Bama, we play in the SECCG with a good chance of finishing 12-1 and playing ND in the NCG

Kick "6" no doubt about it! Just the pure frustration of seeing a true freshman attempt a 56yd fg when we had A.J. McCarron and a bevy of pass catchers to perform the "Hail Mary!"

Yeah, Kick Six is the right answer. We weren't just playing for another title run, we were playing for history with the chance to win three NCs in a row. We had multiple chances to salt that game away and flubbed every single one of them. Just a horrific confluence of events.

The 2004 UT game does deserve an honorable mention, though, when they converted a 4th-and-forever in OT and then went on to win.

I’ll say an under the radar Auburn loss that really crushed me at the time was 2003 Ole Miss, with Ben Obomanu’s dropped TD. Was kind of a last straw for that 2003 team for me, that Tubs absolutely bungled.

Yeah and Penn St. In 1983 I believe it was where our tight end caught the ball at the back of the end zone with lots a green between his heels and the backline of the end zone. The back judge, who had the best look signaled td! They got together on it and ruled in favor of a sidejudge's call of out of bounds. It was played all over the networks but the NCAA said the decisions of the referees is final, regardless of how egregious and bad the call was! The sidejudge was the daddy of the starting tailback for PSU. Bryant used his 3 scratches and the only one he marked was the PSU'S player's daddy

Talk about owning the refs!.

2016 title game to Clemson.

That was the best team Nick Saban has ever assembled.

I came here to post almost these exact words.

Completely agree. 2012 regular season loss to bama I think actually hurt the program more. Everything was laid out for that game and it was won until mccarron played a perfect series. I think LSU would've won the natty that year over a soft ND team and the 2011 NC disaster would've been forgotten

2014 to Ole Miss that kept us out of the #4 playoff spot

2012 SECCG. Would have crushed ND.

2003 LSU in Baton Rouge. Georgia stastically dominated that game but a bunch of missed FGs and blown red zone chances in the first half cost us. Got inside the 40 six times in the first half and scored 3 points. If we win that game, we play Ole Miss in the SECCG with one loss. I believe Georgia would have handily beaten Ole Miss that year. Would have been off to the Sugar Bowl against OU for the title.

It's not a game but Peyton losing the heisman was the most heartbreaking for me because I feel it was stolen from him.

That's some serious revisionist history. The QB that year was the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and put up the most single season TD's and second most total yards in Alabama history.

They were calling that LSU team the greatest team of the century providing they won the SECE winner and the Nat'l Champ' whoever that might be..

Meh, that was debatable. We beat bama and win the west, we face a beatable Mizzou squad in the SECG. I like those chances better.
