What was the most disappointing season for your team in your lifetime?

I'd have to say the 2000 Alabama Crimson Tide tops the list for me. We came into that season with the highest of expectations. The expectations were not only unrealistic but the season itself was a catastrophe. Getting shut out by both Southern Miss AND Auburn at home on the way to an eight-loss season is not something I ever want to experience again.

2016 LSU: Preseason #5—Jr Fournette
Choke away the opener at Lambeau, Les fired after the 4th game, lost to Shark fricker because Guice went the wrong way, hired Tom Herman during the A&M game.
Going into the year I thought we were going to win the National Championship. 8-4.

2008
Preseason #1. An eventual #1 pick and a front runner Heisman candidate leading the offense. A ton of injuries before and during the season. Crushed at home by Alabama, crushed by rival/eventual national champion Florida, and lost to Georgia Tech for the first time in 8 years. Even in the wins, most of them were a struggle. The LSU game was the only win that really felt satisfying at the time and that turned out to be a 5 loss team.

2013...top 10 team coming off a BCS game appearance and ended up 3-9 losing to GA Southern with 0 pass attempts. Lots of injuries as well.
2010...top 5 team but grossly incompetent qbplay in John Brantley and one of the worst OCs in Steve Addazio. Ended up 7-5 and Urban leaves.

That’s a really difficult question and honestly too painful to go back and try and figure out. frick Chad Morris though.

quote:Same for me. I stupidly believed Harris would actually turn the corner and be a competent QB after his performance in the bowl game against Texas Tech. I was as pumped for the opener against Wisconsin as I have ever been and was so disappointed to see that it was the same absolute shite offense with a QB that looked like he might have actually regressed from the year before. I thought we might go 6-6 after that game. That was peak Les Miles.

I was a walk-on in 2000 and dressed for both of these games.

Pre Season #3. I flew out to the Rose Bowl for the first game….Freddie Milton’s returned the punt for 6 after we held UCLA to 3 and out……subsequently D Foster ran all over us the remainder of the game

2014 South Carolina
Off of 3 straight 11 win seasons. Ranked #9.
Kenny Hilll shite all over SC in Game 1 to kick off the SEC Network era. Broke an 18 game home winning streak.
SC finished 7-6 that year.

2012. Coming off back to back 10 win seasons. My freshman year of college in Fayetteville. Sure, Petrino wrecked his motorcycle and got fired but any head coach could get another 9-10 win season with who all we had returning, right? ……right?
I made it all of 2 games into my time at the UofA before I realized this was going to be a multi-year rebuild and the team was gonna suck most of the time I was on campus.

I just can't get behind 2008 for this answer (not saying your opinion is wrong, of course). We finished with 10 wins and a top 10 ranking...the fact that some outlets ranked us 9 spots higher to begin the year doesn't really matter. It's also worth pointing out that 2/3 of our losses were to teams that were simply MUCH better than us.
I always think of 2015 first for this. We were coming off a 10 win, top 10 season and began the year ranked 9th. Then we put up the worst offense I've ever seen at UGA. Lost to any moderately decent team we played, and even in the wins against mediocre teams they were U-G-L-Y. We went a stretch of 2 games without scoring a TD. Scored 1 offensive TD against AU. Celebrating an OVERTIME win over Ga SOUTHERN like we just won the super bowl. Scored 1 TD against tech. The fact that we ended up with 10 wins and only ranked 24th should tell you everything about the way that team was perceived.
2008 a person might could claim we underachieved (although again, we really only lost 1 game we shouldn't have). But 2015 was disappointing...a season where you just drop your head and wander around aimlessly sulking because things are so dismal.
Another one that comes to mind right alongside 2015 and should absolutely be higher on people's lists than 2008 is 2000. Quincy was a junior, we had NFL talent littered on both sides of ht eball, and it was donnan's infamous "I've waited 55 years to coach a team like this" statement. We lost in week 2 to a team that had just come off losing 21 games in a row, in addition to 3 more losses. What should have been a title contender ended up 8-4 with sevearl of the 4 being complete and total "wtf?" head scratchers.

1998 LSU
We were 3-0 and ranked top 10
Went 1-7 the rest of the way
I was pretty young and remember hating our DC Lou Tepper. Still do

Milons punt return vs ucla and it was all downhill after that.

I would say 2003 for Auburn. The team was ranked No.6 entering the season and shite the bed against USC and Georgia Tech, scoring a combined three points in the two games. The whole season was just a massive disappointment.

And lsu in Baton Rouge for the first time in31 years. Use to go 94, 96, 98 and during that game the fumbled punt felt like we’d never beat yall at home. Thank god for those Jumbotrons.

Alabama in 2000. Preseason #3 coming off of an SEC title. Their only three wins were in SEC play, which put them at 4th in the conference. But they lost all three out of conference games against UCLA, Southern Miss and UCF.

Easily the 2000 team. Think we started off #3 and ended 3-8 or some such

1998 LSU
Gerry Dinardo was hired after the Curley Hallman shite show to bring back the magic. He started to sign all the big named in-state recruits that left in droves under Hallman, beginning with Kevin Faulk.
LSU went 6-2 in the SEC in both 1996 & 1997. We were pre-season top 10 with a loaded team led by Kevin Faulk and Herb Brooks. LSU had finally beat #1 ranked Florida, and Steve Spurrier in 1997. It looked like LSU was ready to be a top 5 team and make lots of noise. Then.. in the off-season, DiNardo hired Lou Tepper as DC. That proved to be fatal.
After beating Auburn decisively in Jordan Hare and being ranked #5 in the country, LSU lost a heartbreaker by 1 point to Georgia. Then… the wheels fell off completely. LSU ended the year 4-7 and DiNardo was fired the following season.
