The transfer portal is definitely still a thing.
The portal is a great tool. But not as a main strategy

Most of the flips won’t be last day, it will be weeks or months prior to signing day. If a kid doesn’t want to compete for a job then they probably shouldn’t be playing collegiate athletics.
You still have the same problem only worse.
1. You can just stop recruiting the spot and hope for a flip. If no flip you are short players.
2. You can go ahead and fill the spot. Then a flip happens a month or so prior to NSD. And now those you brought in for those spots also flip and spread word that tx will over recruit
Tx has always recruited well but having some struggles right now. I say this because last year is the best your team did in over a decade. Based on past you should be swimming in top recruits.

It's July and they seem to have put their money into 2024 win now mode

maybe the recruits don't like what they see in Austin -
wtf Tejas - this is almost as bad as Tennessee and the chains / Lamborghini about a decade ago -
actually it's worse - not as bad as Dabo's Ladies' Clinic with the women sitting in a chair and the players grind on them - but worse than the Tennessee Lamborghini -

Without a salary cap, free agent signing is more important than farm system

I do think Moore will either sign with Texas or portal to Texas after a year or two.
His family is all Texas. Kid wants to do something different. Like every kid ever. He'll accomplish that. And he'll miss home.
His mom is all about the bag, and she's going to be a constant problem wherever he goes.

If Aggies were 4th in state of Texas recruiting the longhorns would be posting about the apocalypse in college station.
It is happening to them but they seem to have a large supply of copium.

You hate to see it … no you don’t. I’d like to see them lose every single game in every single sport.

Recruiting now is “putting all the money into 2025 win”, not 2024. Without long term contract, you don’t want put too much money on first year players. You want to spread money on all positions. Spend money to fill the hole on free agent market. Without long term contract you will have less worry about bad free agent signing.

They found out how many MPG those lambos get.

You remember Ryan Wingo?
Who? Our receiver room is deep and we got 2 top 100 receivers and flipped a ND recruit receiver as well, so you'll have to remind me.

I never said anything about receivers, so it does seem like you remember him.

That is so tacky. Really classless. Believe it or not he had a wonderful young man join our program and his former team's fans called his father's business repeatedly and left fake Yelp reviews and threatened his family repeatedly until he had to change lines and take evasive actions. The vitriol was sickening. Makes you wonder what's wrong with people. Maybe they're just green with envy...

Moving forward, recruiting doesn't matter with the portal. Expect frosh/2nd year players to be treated like minor league/1st contract MLB'ers, with Texas being the Yankees. Waste your time turning them into all american's just in time for them to leave you for the show

I’d rather keep a guy like Wingo on campus with Mizzou likely throwing the kitchen sink at him every offseason.
He's already homesick...
But it was an offer he couldn't refuse..
If he comes home in December...remember he wanted the Zou...but couldn't turn down that bag..
If he stays after this year, he'll be a Longhorn for life.

Sark has actually shaded the NIL centric recruiting demographic lately in interviews. Which is a bit contradictory considering we went for it heavily the past few cycles. Now he’s in Dabo mode touting locker room culture over everything to protect his own roster. I think they did the right thing not matching Oregon on Moore. I’d rather keep a guy like Wingo on campus with Mizzou likely throwing the kitchen sink at him every offseason.
Missouri hardly needs Wingo. The WR room is stacked and will continue to be stacked.

Sounds like Texas needs to roll out more Lambos.

Didn’t the recruits all see that you beat Bama and you are in the SEC now?
Why is A&M so high? Daddy is here now and should have dried up A&Ms recruiting ability to have top 10 recruiting years.
Maybe y’all need a really big “We’re in the SEC party.”
