Richt could never capitalize on the in-state talent for some reason and Kirby can. It's as simple as that

Compare the records. Ritch has More SEC championships in the first 5 years.

Much easier SEC and transfer rules back in those days.

Now compare final rankings of their years 2-5:

Richt: 3,7,7,10
Kirby: 2,7,4,7

Kirby gets the edge.

I get there is a lot to sell there and athens is a great place but Richt never recruited like this did he? There should be no reason UGA should not win a national championship in the next few years

Look what happened to Nebraska? They were able to recruit to a nowhere land and now? Couldn't do that any more!

Well he’s a player’s coach. He was on the football team. The players can relate to that. He was also in the top fraternity on campus, SAE. That speaks to his social class. Players look up to him.

Georgia is not Nebraska. Who wants to freeze their rear off in a depressing town at a middle of nowhere school. Georgia is in Athens, the #1 college town in the nation. Georgia has a gorgeous campus, incredible facilities, great looking women, a huge loyal and very generous fan base, a beautiful historic stadium that sells out every game every year. Kirby is a fantastic recruiter but he has huge advantages. UGA and Athens sell themselves.
No one wants to leave. All UGAs living former
coaches live there still. Athens is special. It is more than football. It has been said on any given night 50 or more bands are playing in the city and I’ve seen nothing to cause me to doubt it. It’s a great place to live and party. Recruits realize that quickly and Georgia can pretty much pick and choose from the top recruits

Nebraska out-recruits Missouri despite this horrible disadvantage. Plenty of Husker all Americans from Missouri. Thanks for raising them right.

Fighting players in practice and beating up his team with injuries during fall camp.

Uh, pre Saban? Lol. Yeah no shite. After Saban came, that shite got shut down with the quickness.

ETA: pre Bama Saban I mean. The only sec championship rict won while Saban was in the league was during Sabans third year at LSU. And it would have been his only one had Saban stayed.

He did well the 1st half of his career and inherited some very good talent.

Notte sure what happened the 2nd half of his career but he consistently finished 3rd,4th or lower in conference recruiting. It also didnt help that our facilities were some of the worst in the big 6
and have since been upgraded considerably. We also had one of the smallest support staffs in the conference. Now we have the biggest
