What makes Kirby Smart such a great recruiter?

I get there is a lot to sell there and athens is a great place but Richt never recruited like this did he? There should be no reason UGA should not win a national championship in the next few years

UGA is pretty nice school, close to Atlanta plus the state of Georgia has great highschool football.
Historical UGA usually recruits in Top 10. Kirby can sell recruits on playing for a SEC championship most year and a playoff spot if things falls right.

Georgia has a bunch of top recruits and little in-state competition(tech). Clemson, Auburn, and Bama snag recruits but there's plenty to go around.
Richt could never capitalize on the in-state talent for some reason and Kirby can. It's as simple as that

He was pretty average when he was at UA. Not near as good as Mario, Pruitt, Tosh or Lance Thompson. You could always count on him signing a few kids from Ga each year that couldnt play dead in a western. Thought he should have been fired for telling Jalen Ramsey he wasnt good enough to play for UA. But he didnt think Will Anderson was good enough
to play at UGA either

I said this in another thread today-
Richt recruited skill players as good as anyone but never recruited well in the trenches.
Richt was a perennial top ten recruiter.
Kirby picked up where Richt left off, but also started getting the blue chips on OL and DL at a higher rate, and went from perennial top ten to perennial top five recruiting.
It really isn't much more complicated than that.

Kirby is not a great recruiter. As UGA spends $2 million dollars a year more than Alabama and $4 million dollars a year or more relative to the other upper echelon teams in the SEC and in the country on recruiting.
When you can't win a Natty since 1980, you resort to trying to buy a Natty.
Nonetheless, it hasn't worked because no one has squandered away more elite talent without anything to show for it more than Kirby Smart and no one has choked in more big games in their careers other than Kirby Smart.
