Wasn't kind of a class warfare thing? The Old Mrs student body was from the old planter class who ridiculed Mississippi State as a school for the working class rednecks, so having cowbells was a way to "embrace" the stereotype
Not sure if you are being sarcastic / cute or actually asking such a profound question.
Back in the early days we were MSU A&M. While our name has changed we are still a land grant / agriculture university. But since then yes we are a Vet school, engineering school etc etc. We recently made the list of top 4 Universities in SuperComputer technology.
Like some other Universities we have a long standing with NASA and Auto companies to assist and develope new technologies. We have won our share of titles in competition vs other Universities such as “Here are the materials to work with, streamline a faster boat” etc etc.

No I was serious. Not knocking Miss State, but it was the working class school and that was a time when populism was an important political current so there were class tensions throughout the region.

I’m waiting for LSU to become the Possums

Hate: The abundance of Sandstorm. Should be a one time thing at the beginning of the game to get the crowd going.
Gtfo.
The damn rooster crow should be minimized GREATLY. Leave Sandstorm tf alone.

Cowbells
Dawg fans barking at people is just bat shite crazy
I'm over the Tom Petty thing already for us personally. It was cool..but not really anything to do with UF so no reason to have it. I know he loved Gainesville and all but still.

"Won't back down" is a good slogan, but the song itself isn't exactly something that would get a crowd/team hyped

Auburn's eagle flight is one of the best traditions in all of college sports.
I have heard practically every Alabama fan (and fans of other schools) that I know (most who despise Auburn) say that very thing. That alone speaks for how great it is.

Least favorite sec game day tradition is Carolina losing
Posted on 7/3/20 at 10:29 pm to Carolina_Girl
Hell no. We play Sandstorm after kicking a field goal against Louisiana Tech. That's ridiculous and it needs to be scaled back.

I can tell nobody has ever been in a conference with Oklahoma here by the lack of Boomer Sooner responses

Outside of LSU,
Favorites: War Eagle, Dixieland Delight, Rocky Top, sandstorm.
Least favorites: Shakers/Pom poms, calling the hogs, A&M’s yell leaders, gator chomp, Vandy train horn. Cowbells.

Probably a lot of truth to that to be honest but I wasn’t alive back then. But yeah, I can see that.

Calling of the hogs is kinda neat but you do hear it a lot. Outside of that, I enjoy it.

Agreed here. The noise level would be even louder if people were clapping instead.
In before, “it’s not a shaker, its a drink stir.”

Favorite: Staying home, waiting for game day to end to officially begin the day's beer drinking (which was beer and eggs early AM when I was in Hawaii), making sure all of my superstitions are upheld, enjoying the ability to pause/rewind play, endless snacks, good food (masterfully cooked), best seat in the house and no lines to the bathroom.
Least favorite: people who are not "football fans" running their mouths the whole game, distracting me with their own ignorance and disinterest, and, worse still, opting to root against (insert your team) just to be an arse.

strongly dislike Arkansas fans "calling the hogs". I'm embarrassed for them as I witness it.
Quit whining!
At least you haven’t heard a hog call on your answering machine during Orgeron’s tenure
Get into the Spirit of it — Torment your tormentors playing loud decibel sounds of live hogs being eaten alive by tigers or African lions — it’s all good
And call them up after an LSU win and PLAY THAT shite

My favorite use to be having Mike’s cage parked by opponent’s tunnel.
Now, the eagle flying is pretty cool to see in person.
The cowbells are really awesome on television. I can’t stand it if I’m there.
The best tradition is tailgating all day followed by a night game in Death Valley.
Least favorite is anything A&M does. It’s just doesn’t seem right.

Favorites: Mike the Tiger, Auburn's eagle
Dislike: Rocky Top being the only song TN's band plays
Hate: as annoying as cowbells are, nothing is more irritating than The Whistler. frick that guy and his sidekick.

I generally enjoy everyone's unique traditions. I like our singing of My Old Kentucky home. Its special for Kentuckians.
Rocky Top and the cowbells are absolutely the worst though. Just. The. Worst.
