I think the conference's claims are fairly interesting.

quote:

The SEC asserts that the dispute remains unresolved because of LSU’s "ongoing defiance of the Conference’s Professionalism Rules

Yet they agree that no rules have been broken.

quote:

the very real threat -- reiterated in Defendants’ briefing -- that Defendants will interfere with any effort to terminate LSU’s membership in the Conference."

LSU has already ceded that they can't require the conference to keep LSU. Another weak claim.

quote:

The memorandum goes on to assert that "LSU has also recruited international professional basketball players whose eligibility remains in question.

Pretty much every school in the conference is doing this.

The SEC literally has no case here.

Expansion is inevitable. 15 SEC presidents want LSU removed to open that slot during expansion. Everyone outside of LSU understands and sees LSU in the state of Louisiana for who they are. It is my prediction that LSU will not be a member of the SEC. LSU's celebration cry STTDB define LSU's administration and lack of institutional control up to and through the state government. If LSU is not expelled in the next 2 years it will be because somebody at LSU decided that integrity is important. No other power conference will add LSU for at least 10 years.

You're getting triggered over nothing. I clearly said I am speculating. An LSU fan asked questions that nobody could possibly know, so I speculated. You guys seem to get triggered by anything that is said that does not fall in line with what you want to hear.

And if LSU always said they would follow guidelines why did they say they were going to sign the football and basketball players in the first place? Then go to the courts for TROs?

I haven't followed it as closely as you all have, however, it looks like LSU is looking awkward. Threatening to bring in professional players, then when the SEC threatens LSU, LSU backs down and says, "We will follow SEC rules!"
Well, stop publicly saying you are going to do things that go against SEC rules in the first place, then claiming you are willing to play within the rules when threatened. Seems weak to me.

First, none of this matters to a federal judge in the context of the lawsuit the SEC filed. The simple undisputed fact is that LSU has violated no SEC rule. Second, the longer this goes on, the more ridiculous the SEC's position becomes. Hell, close to half of the SEC basketball teams have now rostered former pros that signed professional contracts. What is the SEC even doing here?

Signing does not equal rostering.

None of these players were ever rostered. There also wasn't a conference rule against them playing when Luis and the football players made their intentions known.

The players do this individually, the schools aren't involved legally.

I'm not so sure anybody actually WANTS LSU removed, but LSU is definitely tap dancing around a dangerous line that could force a decision. LSU fans can deny this all they want, but the fact this ended up in the courts is proof that something is going on, and the fact that the SEC wants to keep it in the courts says a lot, too. For one, it says the SEC offices are tired of dealing with the drama.

Yea, you're right. Following SEC guidance is dumb. Just ask the Ole Piss basketball team.

No. They weren't. but the whole can of worms was opened when Kiffin started this crap.

True again. But they are doing it at LSUs urging...or at least when Kiffin when was urging them to do it. And that is why the offices are tired of it. Are you honestly saying you do not believe Kiffin or LSU or both have encouraged the players to file these petitions?

Or the SEC sees its power slipping away and is throwing everything against the wall to see if something sticks.

That would explain why they just ignored the presidents allegedly voting to dismiss the case, and continued on with it.

Why did it take so long? Alabama played a pro basketball player last year, A&M had one sitting on their roster.

Again, lets say that's true. Why is the conference singling out LSU? A lot of players have sued for eligibility, do we honestly believe those other schools weren't involved too?

Based on a CBS report citing unnamed sources, maybe it's true, maybe it isn't.

You’re just repeating the SEC’s general unsubstantiated claims. None of yall can point to anything that would warrant removal from the conference. The SEC has an obligation to enforce their own rules equally and without bias. Which they clearly have not done. That’s why they filed the federal suit - they think it will protect them from suffering damages of their obviously biased actions. It won’t.

The SEC has done a good job of using their mouthpieces in the press to push their agenda. There’s very little objective reporting, so most people are simply accepting the strongest narrative(the SEC’s) as truth. Plus yall are tired losing to LSU. So this is the easy way out.

Alabama got slapped down for it, too, and they didn't keep trying to make him eligible. You can put just about any name you want on a roster. But you can't play them.

There is no question it is true. Kiffin has come out and said it publicly. And, they are probably singling out LSU because LSU started this. People warned LSU that turmoil follows Kiffin, and it has once again.

Well, if he made public comments, then it sounds pretty true. he initiated it.

Look. The entire conference is in a lose/lose situation. It makes the conference look stupid for all of the in fighting going on. If LSU is removed (not saying they will be or should be) then LSU will find out it is not a good situation to be in, and the SEC will also lose a valuable member. Lose/lose.

I just think we're too far gone at this point, there are so many inaccuracies and misconceptions at each step of this thing and we're like 100 steps in. No one is going to take a look at each step and be willing to look at it objectively. Now everyone has a side and they've narrowed in on their target and they're not going to be convinced otherwise.

Alabama stopped playing Bediako because a judge lifted his injunction, not because of anything the conference or Alabama did. All the conference did was submit an affadavit.

Alabama had no recourse to continue to try to make him eligible. Once he had no injunction, it was the end of the road.

No, he didn't.

Maybe in football. It's been happening in basketball for awhile.

He never said any of this.

Look, I think you're a good poster but it's pretty clear that you haven't followed this at all.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey filed an affidavit Wednesday asking a court to block Alabama basketball player Charles Bediako from competing, arguing that allowing former professional athletes to return to college would undermine the integrity of college sports. The SEC actively tried to stop Bediako through the courts.

No, he didn't.

Well, one source says he did and one source says he didn't. Which seems more plausible? Does it seem reasonable that Kiffin would do something in a slick way, or for him to bow out and play by the rules without compunction? Which one does he have a reputation for?

Other than Alabama, which the SEC fought against through the courts, what other SEC team did so in basketball before the Bediako thing? I honestly do not watch basketball, so I don't know.

I try to be good, but i have copied and pasted reports saying what I am asserting. That's all i can do. read, and then make a decision. i mean, it's not like LSU fans have all been forthright and and are
unbiased.

Yes, he submitted an affidavit, as I previously said. There were zero threats of expulsion, no rules created, no lawsuit. This is despite Bediako playing in 5 games.

LSU gets all of the above before they even signed a pro, or even violated a rule.

Maybe, it's all opinion either way. I think we can assume that anytime a player sues for extra eligibility, the school has been involved. There doesn't seem to be a specific rule against that and it's worth pointing out that the players were suing the NCAA originally, not the conference. The conference was only added after they created their rule.

The Baton Rouge case involved over 30 athletes, half were non football players and of the football players, several went to other SEC programs like South Carolina.

Seems odd for Kiffin/LSU to be directly involved with getting players eligibility to play other sports or for conference rivals.

If we're talking about pros only in conference, A&M also had one rostered. Auburn is currently trying to get one eligible, as is Ole Miss, among others.

The other problem I have is the conference seems to be picking and choosing what eligibility rules they want to enforce. Crickets from the conference when someone like Diego Pavia circumvents the NCAA for extra eligibility, by way of the courts.

I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible, and I've followed this entire thing very closely.
