The top one was close enough to wave, I guess. The guy launched in an upward motion with both feet leaving the ground. He hit Brennan mostly in the upper chest with some contact to he chin. If Brennan was an inch shorter, that same exact motion would have concussed him.

The second one was a shot to this hip and was a terrible call. You can tell the knee was nowhere near hit based on the way Trask's body reacted to the contact. LSU hit Tua in the thigh/quad last year, basically the same area from a different angle, and nothing was called. I don't even think it was mentioned as a possible low hit either.

Rule 69.2, Roughing the Passer: When a defensive player breathes on the opposing team’s quarterback’s vagina or says mean and hurtful things to said quarterback

The top one is closer to fitting the definition of targeting: helmet to helmet and launching are both clearly present.

He put his facemask into the QB's chestplate. No way that would be considered targeting.

and the top of his helmet in the QBs neck and helmet.

top one is helmet to helmet contact you dum dum, i dont personally think its roughing the passer but as the rule is written that should be a flag

The bottom one in no way is a roughing the passer, he was hit in his thigh/hip region....well above the knee. The rule for this instance is to prevent defenders from diving into the knees of a QB,real time it looked lower than what it was and when reviewed should not have been called.

Just to muddy the waters a bit in this thread. O said he was informed by the SEC office that the official call was a late hit not low hit. So there's that.........

There is no way you actually think it’s possible to tell PI from that image

no, no I don't. I think that trying to use still images from film of plays where guys are moving around like cheetahs and grizzly bears to prove some kind of point is usually inaccurate. I was just being an instigator, that's all.

So in answer the question, "What is Roughing the Passer anymore?" and I respond with, "Not the first one."

Then you agree with me, and also imply I'm stupid for saying it isn't roughing the passer?

Or are you just the moron for not reading the thread title?

To be honest!!! The officials don't have a clue anymore as to what is roughing and what isn't!!!! In the 2 plays you show, I would say good clean hits on both. It's subjective though, so the refs in the 2nd one take in to account the force of the hit and likely tossed the flag.
Take a look at the BAMA/A&M game Saturday and there were 2 plays that would fit this as well. #58 Barmore, a backup DL, rushes Mond and while attempting to bat away a pass, brushed the headgear of Mond drawing a flag for roughing. Mond's head didn't even move!!!!
Tua rolls out to his right and throws a ball downfield, and #92 I believe, takes 3 steps and lowers his headgear and drives it into Tua's left shoulder. Nothing to see here from the officiating crew.
SEC officiating has sucked for awhile and it looks to be only getting worse!!!!

I think Tua took a helmet to the balls on that play. Knocked him out for the rest of that drive and all hell about broke loose for the Alabama offense.
