At least we can all agree on this. Tennessee is the Greatest State of the Union. Give us your tired, poor and oppressed. But no illegals please. That means anyone from Alabama.

You just said Georgia beaches suck, and you said Tybee Island is a place most people do not plan trips around.

Tybee Island has just over a million visitors each year and roughly half are from out of state.

And that isn't even mentioning the Golden Isles like St. Simons and Sea Island. I'm also struggling to find anywhere in Alabama in this article.

And for the record, I love Alabama's beaches as well.

Re: Huntsville, yes it is unique. I go there for work about every other month and love it. Been staying at Air BnBs near Campus 805 the last few times and have had a blast. Congrats on Alabama having a unique city because we needed to put some Nazi rocket scientists in Bumfrick Alabama to make it harder for the Soviets to spy on them. Decatur was larger than Huntsville until the Space Race began, so Huntsville was the beneficiary of some good luck initially and BRAC really helped out Redstone and Huntsville at the expense of Ft. McClellan.

Because they cannot afford to go to Hilton Head and they attrack those who can go to the Gulf Coast.
St Simons and Sea Islands appeal is it caters to the rich and they are able to maintain their privacy. The rest of the masses go to Tybee Island.

BS on Huntsville being benefitted by BRAC and especially at the expense of Ft McClellan. Ft Lenard Wood received all the commands Ft McClellan lost. Huntsville benefits from the private sector as much from the Defense sector. That is why I think you are FOS.

You're high. Look at MDA's presence on Redstone compared to 20 years ago. AMC (a 4 star command) moved to Redstone as part of BRAC.

Alabama's congressional delegation during BRAC did not fight McClellan closing because they knew they'd ultimately win with Redstone growing. How many buildings on Redstone are named after Senator Shelby? I've lost count... Also, AMCOM (2 star command) was established at Redstone because of BRAC.

Think about this... would you rather have a bunch of highly paid Department of Defense civilians, contractors, and usually at least field grade officers working in very technical fields or a bunch of Privates who have very little time or money to contribute to the local economy in your area?

But oh no, the MP and Chemical privates are being trained in Ft. Lost in the Woods now...

And Huntsville's high tech private sector wouldn't exist without Redstone. Huntsville was a cotton mill town before the space race.

Really WW2 when the arsenals at Redstone & Huntsville were built along with the Chemical Depot. Prior to that it was nothing but mills and watercress.

Sparkman basically willed Redstone to continue it's existence post-WW2, which led to it becoming a rocket facility, which led to it being a key cog in the space program.

When Apollo folded up Huntsville was hammered. My dad moved to Canaveral for 2 years because my grandad was transferred because of it (Skylab) before being sent back to work on Space Shuttles before he left for TVA.

Absolutely if he had overthrown the government. You think he wouldn't you're an idiot. He would try to stay in power by unarming citizens. That's what dictators do...moron....Stupid people listen to what they say....smart people watch what they do....

They did move those commands because of BRAC, but not because of Ft McClellan closing like you claim. BRAC has gone through many rounds and AMCOM moved from St Louis during the early rounds (much needed). AMC moved because of space and expenses of Ft Belvoir. MDA has gotten larger over the years and that is not because of BRAC. BRAC is necessary because of Government spending.

Do you know what the FBI has built there? Has nothing to do with DOD or the Space Race.

Take a drive through the two Research Parks in Huntsville and see how many companies are only associated with Space and Defense. Huntsville's leadership runs circles around Atlanta's leadership.

And Atlanta is a shithole. The last southern city I'd want to live in. And every time I've visited, or driven through, I've regretted it.

Give me Chattanooga, Nashville, Jacksonville, Greenville, Charlotte...hell even New Orleans. At least it has personality.

It's kind of bullshite that there isn't an NBA team in Louisville. Plenty big enough population and businesses (UPS, plenty of bourbon distilleries, YUM brands, etc.) to support a team. Ready to use NBA arena in the Yum Center. The state cares way more about basketball than most of the current cities. And don't start with "the state only cares about college sports." The Kentucky Colonels were a top ABA team and should've got the nod to the NBA then.

Why can’t y’all have nice things? Last year I witnessed the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs win championships. You will never get to experience that.

I have an SEC championship ring for actually being on a frickin’ team that won it, and I think you’re a loser for taking so pride in something you didn’t have anything to do with.

Brag about “experiencing” something you accomplished yourself. A ten year old girl can sit in the stands and cheer for a team.

Yes I am familiar with the FBI's presence on Redstone. Those buildings nor the ATF's presence would be on Redstone if Redstone was closed by BRAC.

I did last week. Only place I remember seeing that wasn't directly or indirectly supporting DOD or NASA initiatives was Adtran.

Are you really comparing the leadership of city with 7 public high schools to the 8th largest metro area in the US?

If you weren't so argumentative you'd see I'm being very complimentary of Huntsville.

I know exactly how politics works. Ft McClellan was the smallest post in the country. They on were targeted for closure for years, but Bill Nichols prevented it from closing. Read Norman Schwarzkopf's autobiography.

Of course they wouldn't, but that isn't how it works. Redstone was a great area for expansion and the support was built as a result. You do notice that Space Command in moving there. I was assigned to NORAD/NORTHCOM in CS, and can tell you they made the right choice going to Huntsville.

You need to look closely, they all have government contracts, but their being located there is not dependent on that. They (city and private sector) created an environment to place tech there. I worked up there as a Government Contractor after I retired from the Military.

I recognize that Atlanta is fricked up and Huntsville has got their shite in order. The reverse migration from the North is Atlanta's only hope.

How poor are you? Serious question.

We vacationed at St Simons a few times and my parents were the definition of middle class.

I'm from Marshall County, Alabama so this isn't me defending Georgia. You just sound like an idiot.
