Coaching. Culture. Development.
Not sure you can buy all that.

I agree. Money can’t buy the intangibles.

I don’t know how much of their current roster was helped by Ra'Shaad Samples, who has been at Oregon now, but Samples was instrumental in getting offensive talent out of HS and the portal to SMU when he was there. One of the main guys that flipped their roster if you been watching SMU lately. I was caught off guard when they sat Preston Stone tho.

It’s going to happen eventually. Not sure about entire athletic departments but football teams will be sold and treated like the NFL.

There is no return on your investment. If you're gonna do that, you might as well just buy an NFL team or start a new franchise.

NFL teams cost billions. Apples to oranges. Arkansas is suffering because the Waltons did just that.

As far as no return on investment. The uber rich piss away money on pet projects all the time. Some buy big hunting properties for millions and then spend a ton on them. Others buy yachts.....they don't give a shite about depreciation. Others give tens of millions to politicians. Others fund random movies or games or who the frick knows what.

Tossing 15 million at a football team for kicks and giggles isn't anything to a guy who has 1 billion generating 100 million in profit to play with every year.

TAMU, Ole Miss, Oregon, etc. it doesn’t work.

Well, Oregon is currently undefeated and ranked #1 in the country. They have won an average of 11.25 games in the past four years. I would say it’s working out pretty well for them.

Ole Miss may have fallen short this year, but they were a play or two from winning 10 or 11 games. And they destroyed Georgia. They have won an average of 9.5 games in the last four years. I would say it’s working out pretty well for them too. And they don’t have a billionaire benefactor. But, their fans and alumni have embraced the portal.

Exactly. These guys didn't become billionaires by flushing their money down a toilet.

Yet after they have become billionaires, they love to blow money on pet projects.

As soon as a ROI is established, the Saudi’s will buy in. It could come from an equity stake in the TV revenue, or such. Speaking of which, be prepared to purchase multiple streaming services to follow your favorite team in the near future. Who knows, Netflix could financially support a few teams that just happen to wind up on their platform.

Ok but there is at least the opportunity to make money. If I am a billionaire, I'm not dumping $100 million on a college roster just so they win some games.

I like how us everyday fans have expectations that the multi millionaires and billionaires of our schools buy us the best available talent

What a wild time to be alive. If we lose, it’s now the boosters fault.

Couldn’t that multi billionaire build the best program in college football history?

The problem with that is that they would want to control the program inside and out and basically be the owner...deciding many things that they have no business deciding. Roster moves, which player plays, etc.
