Tallywacker or not. Beating State at home means nothing to nobody and right now, that's all the boy grinder can hang his hat on.

That's not the say the improvement isn't happening, it's just not going to be something you can show until you face an equivalent team later in the season.
No, and it's all baby steps.
Damn near half the starters were playing for different teams last fall. They're still gelling together.
I'm very pleased with how they're improving, but we're probably still going to lose 3-4 more games. The QB ain't great, I'm worried about center, and the defense can't hold it together alone.

39 scholarship players in January. 39.
I don't give a frick what the 247s talent composite says. This is a brand new team and brand new staff that have never played with each other.
Transfers and true freshmen are starting all over the field on both sides of the ball and we actually look decent.

Not sure but Kelly seems like a disaster.

You hope he's a disaster. Nothing so far has eluded to him being such.
Killing it in recruiting and making a starting team composed of mostly transfers and true freshmen look competitive. That's a home run so far in my book.

Two more games before they get a grade.

I tease LSU fans, but c'mon, give Kelly SOME time before deciding what he is or isn't worth to the organization.
LSU fans that were dense about the hire have come around for the most part. The only remaining folks that need convincing are the mouth breathing coonasses that want Ed Orgeron to be coach because he's one of them or the ones that don't understand this was a complete rebuild that will take time.
The team has improved every week. They seem well-coached (except ST), well-conditioned, and are giving great effort out there. You can tell it's an entirely new culture and a program run by adults.
Kelly has also been recruiting his arse off and not just great talent, but a lot of great kids/students that we didn't seem to get before, so people are excited about the future.
We have talent holes this season, so we won't beat the better teams on our schedule, but that is going to change very soon.
I give him a B+ because of how bad special teams have been. We'd be 4-0 and have a much bigger win over MSU if our special teams were just mediocre. Kelly has acknowledged that and said he is working to fix it, and I believe him.

Right, I guess it makes no difference that I can see defenders making tackles they missed in week 1, and I can watch Daniels make reads he wasn't in week 1.
You can believe what you want, I don't really care. I'm just stating the facts.
If you played on Florida's schedule, you'd be 1-3 at best.

Kelly C+
Napier C-
Napier is going with the cards he was dealt as far as QBs go.
It will be interesting to see how Florida does in the next 2-3 years. He made some strange calls in their Tenn game that might have cost them the game.
Kelly is what I expected. not the great coach some LSU posters thought he would be, but a major upgrade over what they had. He might do very well at LSU, but it is not a given.

This is what I don't understand. LSU has been a top 3-5 team in recruiting. I'm not sure he is "killing it in recruiting." Right now he is below normal LSU levels. It's still a lot of time and could change, though.

Napier has played 4 games, 3 of them have been against teams ranked in the top15.
Wins over #12 Utah
Losses against #7 Kentucky and #8 Tennessee
Kelly has played 0 ranked teams, yet still has a loss.
If you think Kelly has done better, then you're stupid.

It's easy to get high recruiting classes in Louisiana. It's not easy to get highly ranked classes while recruiting to needs and most of the top 10 players in your state are going out of state.

To be fair, Florida State is ranked

Both are sub par in my opinion. Coming into the season with a good gameday coach you'd expect LSU to be 4-0 and UF 3-1. With UF at 2-2 and LSU at 3-1 both have failed at that. I'd say both are c-minus so far. By "expect"... I'm using the "Mark Richt as your head coach" measure... not Steve Spurrier or Urban Meyer or Nick Saban or someone incredible. Just a Good "B+" level coach like Richt.
7-5 regular season with losses to Vandy and tech

Fair point.

My comments are honest opinions, and not meant to belittle of troll LSU, btw.

We'll be #2 as soon as Toviano announces. Add in Harbor potentially and we'll lock in a top 3 class.
In Kelly's first year.. after the two of the worst seasons of LSU football this century.

a reasonable college football fan knows that you can't judge a SEC coach or a team on 4 games, especially since those are mostly out of conference games
Posted on 9/27/22 at 2:02 pm to wadewilson
Losses against unranked teams:
Kelly - 1
Napier - 0
Wins against top15 teams:
Kelly - 0
Napier - 1
"But I can see guys making tackles now that they missed in week 1, Kelly must be awesome because that's only ever happened on basically every football team in the history of football".
