To be fair Kirby is Les Miles 2.0

quote:2007 was mostly Miles' recruits. His 2011 team would have won a Natty most years with no Saban guys. Miles had his gameday coaching problems, but Kirby isn't a good gameday coach either. He is just willing to allow the bagmen free reign. If Kirby were in the West instead of the East he would never be in the playoffs.
Miles couldn't win one without Saban's team.

Great recruiter and good oline coach who was too stubborn to evolve and fire his friends.

Miles was a non Iowa State upset over Oklahoma State from winning his 2nd Natty.
It did happen, thus creating the rematch with Bama, rapidly spinning to the 4 team playoff.

One of my fav coaches of all time. A true leader, elite recruiter, outstanding person, great listener and a family man.
Met him in a small weight room tent outside Baghdad around 1am at height of OIF. He was with Lou Holtz and the Commanding General of the 3rd ID. With all the incoming indirect fire, it was far from safe for him, but yet he still honored his commitment to come.
I asked him if he’d ever coach at A&M in the future and he said leading the Texas Aggie football team had always been his dream job. I’m just kidding about that part, but everything else is accurate.
There was maybe 15 soldiers total that night but he sat down with each one and looked them in the eye and listened to each one. He didn’t say much unless asked questions - but he really listened to each kid tho.
Impressive man. Don’t think you ever hear anybody say a negative thing about him as a person. I thought it was a mistake when yall fired him, but what do I know.
Wish we would’ve hired him when yall let him go.

My guess is you secretly think Coach O is a buffoon who wins on talent and luck, but know better than to post that.
Not at all, Coach O had a plan from the beginning to change the offense and his teams are always ready to play, no sleepwalking through games and needing miracle comebacks at the end. We won our last six games of the season by at least three scores. Miles' teams would always play down to the competition; he won on talent and luck: buffoon. No reason LSU shouldn't be a consistent contender at the very least instead of just scraping by. Even a decent coach would've had us in Bama's position from 2005-2016 considering they were on probation at first

We also haven't saw the clock mismanagement from O.
Nor the run run pass punt.

I think unfortunately he suffers from early onset dementia or something else, because I think something is wrong. He is a good person, but limited as a coach.

He also understands that Miles won that NC because he was coaching Nick Saban's kids. Miles couldn't win one without Saban's team. So your whole argument has no basis in fact.
I guess Kirby also understands he can't win with Mark Richt's players or his own players. So there's that.
But I do have one question....Whose talent did Orgeron win with last year?

Les Miles: Should have been fired way earlier, but I'm glad LSU was too stubborn to pull the trigger. I've said it for years he should have been fired after 21-0. The way the 9-6 game played out, Alabama wins that game 70% (or more) of the time. 2/6 on FGs, the opponent is 3/3 and you lose by 3?
Les then used the exact same game plan in New Orleans. Obviously we all know how that worked out.
I am jealous of his fake game though. He always seemed to know when to pull out the fake and had it designed perfectly. For every "onside kick vs Clemson" that Saban has at Alabama there seems to be 2-3 other plays that blow up (Fake punt vs Texas and FG against Clemson in NCG for example).

Great Man, terrible coach

First. Kirby's a better coach than Richt.
Records at Georgia after _ games (Richt/Smart)
10: 7-3 / 6-4
20: 16-4 / 15-5
30: 24-6 / 23-7
40: 32-8 / 32-8
50: 40-10 / 39-11
56: 46-10/ 44-12
Richt was 1-1 in SECCG at that point, Kirby is 1-2. Both won the SEC in the 2nd season. Kirby made the playoffs as the 3 seed that year. If the CFP existed in 2002 Richt would have been the 3 seed. Kirby Smart so far is a more expensive Mark Richt.

Miles after the 2012 BCS game said something to the effect of "I don't know what happened."
It perfectly summed up his Clue-Les coaching style. "Durr, this option play that caught Bama by surprise a couple of times will absolutely dominate after Saban has had months to prepare!"

Otoh, Bama was playing safe in the 2012 game before a fake, and Miles still pulled the trigger and yall snuffed it out, then the camera panned to him and he stuck his finger in his ear trying in vain to find something, anything! The fake against Florida in 2015 was a thing of beauty though and provided the deciding score in that game

He's a great guy who failed to evolve with the college game. And thus, he was passed up.
Jimbo is the same, I fear.

UGA fans love him. They went and got Kirby, which is the same as Miles.
