What did OM fans expect from Luke?

From the OM board
quote:

Some moron negotiated the contract so that if he gets fired, he gets the full balance of money left on his contract. So, in other words, if he finished this season and got fired, Ole Miss would have to pay him over $9 million. I can't tell you how many reasons why this is unbelievably stupid.

Um, no one was touching that job with the penalties and potential sanctions ahead! Nobody OM wanted anyways.

So there is Luke. Already a part of the program. The players know him. He has the best potential to keep the people on the ship from drowning when the ship sank. Bc everyone knew the ship was going to sink. And both Luke and OM knew that as soon as the storm was over, Luke was going bye bye. So why wouldn’t Luke demand a full pay buyout in that scenario?

Chip Kelly didn't go to Florida, so your statement is wrong. I mean, I guess if you throw "enough" money you can get anybody. But most colleges have limited money to get coaches.

Luke is a great face for Ole Miss right now. He comes across as a great guy and honest. Add to that the reasons stated in the OP and he was a logical, solid choice. It's hard to blame Luke for what is going on at Ole Miss right now. he inherited the team, and all in all has recruited pretty well. You guys mad a great pick considering.

Wrong on every level. He's fricking incompetent and just because he's a nice guy and loves Ole Miss doesn't make him a great hire.

frick him. frick his staff and frick anyone who supports that sack of shite

Not an Ole Miss fan but I always expect the fat guy to be jolly. He doesn't seem jolly on the sideline. I'd ask for a partial refund.

What do you expect? Freeze left a mess there. I am surprised the recruiting has been as good as it has been. You can't go to a bowl, and players see that Ole Miss was only good because they cheated, and not because they had a great coach.

Luke came in when players could choose to leave with no penalties and held most on them to the program. I mean, you act like he was left with an even playing field. He wasn't.

For the circumstances that were left, he was a great hire. Don't blame him for the results. He doesn't have his players, and even if he did they are sandbagged by probation, etc.

It was and always will be. I'll put up with Luke for 10 years and not regret the cheating

Don't give me that shite. He has 3 first round draft picks and possibly two more that will get drafted. He has players, he just sucks.

The last time Ole Miss went on probation, and it was far worse that these sanctions, we got Tubberville. So saying we couldn't get anyone is just stupid

Because his other option was to go be an O line coach somewhere making $200-300k. You’re arguing two different things. Sure, OM’s options were limited, and there’s no way a big time coach would have jumped into that. But Luke wasn’t exactly in high demand either. He would have taken it for $3MM per year with zero buyout simply because even if he were fired after one year, he just made 10x what he could have made otherwise.

Les Miles would have been a good choice during this time. He has integrity and can recruit. He would leave the program with some good players when all the dust has settled and OM could get a real coach.

There were plenty that wanted the job but Bjork took the last lazy lazy way out by hiring this moron.

Oh, and you are wrong on "sanctions." They are all but done minus the bowl ban this year. After December, we are good to go. Luke was a worse punishment than the NCAA could have done to us.

The contract was terrible. Ole miss fell into the trap that Auburn did this past year. If you pay a coach a lot it makes them better. No way Luke deserved 3 million a year. Right hire wrong contract

He’s a bridge to get us through NCAA stuff. He kept us from having to hire someone who would have required 6+ year contract. No unproven coach in CFB is worth 5-6 year investment and none of the candidates we were looking at wanted the job without some serious job security requirements. After this season the NCAA stuff is over and we can hire a better quality coach. Luke is in over his head and most fans like myself that honestly gave him a chance can see he’s not ready.

I've said it since day 1. We should have hired Bill Clark. He's a damn good coach.

He built a program from scratch. We’re going to need that.
