Sankey overplayed his hand in a weakening SEC.

Well, it certainly ain't weakening in terms of viewership of regular season conference games:

SEC kicking B10 arse in Viewership

Article from WSJ is via a paid subscription so not sure you can access. If not, here are a few salient quotes:

Two years ago, SEC and Big Ten football games drew similar television audiences. This season, however, the second campaign since each league expanded, the SEC’s average audience has surged by 49% while the Big Ten’s has dropped 11%, according to Nielsen. The average regular-season SEC football game now draws 2 million more viewers than the average Big Ten game.

Currently, the Big Ten has the more lucrative TV package, which has helped fund its on-field success in the player-pay era. The Big Ten distributed roughly $62 million to each school as of 2023-24, compared with about $52 million in the SEC.

Great negotiating there Sankey!

...and then this just for belly laughs...

The Big Ten rejected the notion that TV ratings were a sign that the SEC has gained an edge.

“To simply measure the success of our conference’s expansion by television ratings is to ignore academics and research as the primary purpose of institutions of higher learning,” a Big Ten spokesperson said.

The fans win. SEC teams shouldn’t be playing FCS opponents

That’s the thing. You’ll need some fcs to place between an Alabama and Uga.

It won’t be a big program. This seals it.

How about this: another game against an SEC opponent is 100X more enjoyable to watch than a game against a directional school. We get enjoyment. Forget the $.

We still got the most teams into the playoffs, they just didn’t perform.

Barely any SEC involvement. Dominated by BIG

One extra SEC game means more views means more commercials means more money for the crooks in charge.

F'ing terrible idea to go to 9 given what we received and Sankey should be fired as a result.

you are aware that Sankey doesn't have the authority to implement a schedule change like that?

the school presidents voted for this.

We didn't receive any benefits. The SOS argument is bogus because the committee doesn't hardly pay attention to SOS. They pay attention to W's and L's. Sankey bent the conference over a barrel.

It’s Sankeys responsibility in his role to either negotiate contracts with ESPN reflective of the value being provided to them based on TV ratings or postpone through various means agreeing to a CFP guideline forcing that change or failing to address SOS in its rankings.

There is no CFB without the SEC.
There is no CFP without the SEC.
There is no 9th game without him agreeing to a framework that results in that outcome.

He’s putting a conference with every possible leverage variable in its favor at a scheduling, revenue and CFP structure disadvantage and that is by definition a failure at the executive level by him and his team.

again, you think he acted alone in that?

the school presidents/chancellors and ADs direct him to do these things.
he works FOR them and doesn't do jack or shite of this magnitude without their approval.

I mean the proof is in the pudding. How has the B1G not only caught up but surpassed the SEC?

They have won the title 3 straight years, and also in the non Playoff bowl games also beaten the SEC head to head more often than not

The SEC is objectively behind right now

Nothing presented in your link refutes the dominance of regular season SEC games over regular season B10 games.

Of the top 10 viewership games you cite:

6 were CFP games
2 were conference championship games - one B10 and one SEC

Only 2 were Regular Season conference games (the point of the article):
Ohio State v. Alabama (split)
Ohio State v. Michigan (you get this one)

well, the SEC is 2-6 over the last 3 years against the other Power 4 conferences in the playoffs.

This 9 SEC game schedule will only hurt if the playoff remains 12 teams.Of course they could change strength of schedule part of the equation and get the best teams in.I see playoff expansion coming either to 16 or 24 which would help the SEC teams but Sankey is against the 24 team promoted by the Big 1.

People were complaining who got in at 4 & now 12. But DOUBLING that amout "WOULD FIX THINGS"?

If, as several people on You Tube pointed out, the B1G wants to talk about these past few years...4 teams & 12 teams seemed to work out fine.

Why fans bitch, and moan, about getting to watch much better games instead of ridiculous rent a win games is beyond me.

Some of you are weak as shite.

What your dumb as hell arse confused as bitching and moaning is actual questions on “what was the trade off?” “What was the gain?”

Some of you are just dumb as hell and can barely string together two sentences.
