Pretty much all SEC teams hold Myles Garrett and get away with it. Otherwise, it would be holding on every play (which it is).

First offensive series for Bama in 2012 game at LSU. The line judge throws a flag against Bama for holding. Ritter on his own judgement picks up the flag and announced their was no holding.

Alabama hasn't been called for holding since October
LSU was one of the most penalized teams under Nick Saban. His 2003 LSU team was far more penalized than Shula's 4 win Alabama.
Saban must have really learned sound technique and discipline in Miami.

Full sequence:

^ two clear shadows

^ two clear shadows

^ slight shadow

^ no shadow under right knee
Check it out though and if I'm wrong I will make a note in original post. Video
^ also, while the YouTuber does pause, when it resumes you can tell the knee abruptly stopped it's downward momentum at that point
Regardless I doubt the ref was looking back at the first down marker to see where his knee hit

I did look at the shadow. It disappears at that moment, and the knee abruptly stop moving downward.
The ref who was right there was looking at his knee not at the shadow and agrees as well. Well until he notices where the first down marker is
Also while you can't tell for sure from that angle, no other ref is across the field from him adjusting his spot. The two at the bottom of the screen are just standing there. A 4th jogs toward him from the right of the screen.
Regardless, if there was a ref at midfield adjusting his spot why look backwards at marker and awkwardly stumble shifting his feet towards it and moving the ball? Wouldn't it make sense to look at the guy you are matching the spot with?

quote:white gets his right toe down and uses that to push off with, the knee doesnt actually touch. You can see the divot his toe makes when he does it, very good body control. The place this guy pauses is the only reason it looks like his knee touches. As for what the ref does or does not do i dont really care, the spot the ball ended up with was correct. Where the ref goes to first is at least 3/4 or a yard short of where the ball is when whites shoulder hits, which incidentally he could not see because white had rotated in the air away from him. Only thing that makes sense is another official offscreen is directing him to correct the spot and hes looking for the yard mark. That or we foolishly exposed our grand rec plan of buying up refs on the first drive of a game we won by 19 points against an opponent that had not beat us in like a decade
Check it out though and if I'm wrong I will edit original. Video

You started off saying the knee was a foot off the ground, now you gather that because his toe drug and kicked up dirt his knee barely skimmed without touching the ground.
I watched it again, clearly looks like that knee is bouncing off the ground.

As for what the ref does or does not do I don't really care

Rewatching that part it could be possible the ref (which is not setting a spot) is simply saying move the chains. Forcing him to spot the ball a half yard forward and look like an idiot stumbling bc that was so far off from the correct spot, the spot where he called called it down. He had the best view by far and saw the knee hit, and his spot is right on with video evidence.
So some ref with a bad angle from further away and with no video evidence was really right? Just jogs up out of left field and says move the chains?
So the only possibly excuse it that someone told him to adjust the spot incorrectly rather than doing it himself

I'm shocked that the OP wasn't a LSU fan. This is right in their wheelhouse.

I'd love to know what the ref was thinking?...
Luckily we won this game.

He's clearly not down in that picture.
His legs are really close together in that picture. His body is at the top of the 0. In order for his knee to be down, it would be near the middle of the 0. Use some common sense. His right leg isn't that far away from his body.

I would say the two years in a row the refs screwed Vandy out of wins over Florida when Cutler was QB at Vandy.

Kentucky got robbed at Florida in 2014. I'm man enough to admit it.
