I strongly disagree. Odom is in year 3 and if we shite the bed, he’s gone. He wasn’t hired by our current AD.

Mullen recruited well enough at State that they are actually relevant. That isn't easy.

Mullen just doesn't get the credit he deserves, IMO.

UF likely won’t finish in the top half of the SEC in recruiting this year. That’s flatly unacceptable when you’re in a state that produces so much talent. They’ve only got 8 players ranked 4 stars, and only 2 of those guys are from Florida. Un-good.

It was a horrible, lazy hire, and I think he should definitely be on the list.

Uhhhh what? What Mullen did in Starkville was clearly impressive. Early returns haven't been good but Mullen was the right choice and I think time will prove that.

Florida needed someone who could come in and recruit lights out to compete with UGA and FSU.

They tried that with Muchamp.

Worked well enough for them to win their division twice after he left. And he finished 5th and 7th in the conference in recruiting in two of his seasons.

Mullen won’t sniff a Top 3 national ranking - something Muschamp did twice.

not even close. we're 2-0, with a 95% chance of going 3-0. WiBO would need to go 5-7 or worse on the season to get canned. Not likely at all.

Fake news.

I believe Mullen had two wins vs. a team that finished ranked. In 9 (NINE) seasons. Ole Miss in 2009 and Auburn in 2014.

He didn’t beat a single team that finished with 11 wins.

He beat three teams that finished with 10 wins:

Middle Tenn State - 2009
Bowling Green - 2013
Rice - 2013

And he beat 3 teams that finished with 9 wins:

#20 Ole Miss - 2009
Southern Miss - 2015
La Tech - 2015

He had ONE winning conference record in 9 seasons.

He’ll be fired after year 3.

FSU ain't doing so hot, either. Taggart is in over his head. He's known for turning programs around but has zero experience competing at an elite level. Best case is he's their Zook and he hands it off to their Meyer but more realistically he's their Muschamp and hands it off to their Mac.

Mullen should be alright. I think most of us, including myself, underestimated just how badly Mac put us behind the 8 ball with his defensive recruiting. Our LBs are the worst they've ever been and there's not a 4* in the entire unit. We'll get killed by anyone with a running game with a pulse and it'll take some good LB/DLine classes to build it back up.

I don't know Mullen was the best choice for a rebuild, but I think UF will be more patient with him because of what he inherited. Mac inherited a Top 5 defense and Grier. Muschamp at least left the cupboard stocked.

FSU has had a national title winning coach for 90% of that last 30 years.

That is crazy good fortune and they acted like it was a birthright.

It’s a warning to us all.

Ah, so you don't understand the degree of difficulty of coaching in Starkville during the peak years of the SEC West. Got it. Moving on.

Did you read anything I wrote?

You said what he did was “clearly impressive.” I pointed out that there wasn’t really anything impressive about it. He beat two teams in 9 years that finished in the Top 25. Can you name another coach who stuck around for 9 years and only had 2 Top 25 wins? Sylvester Croom was able to do that in less than half the time.

19 of his 33 SEC wins (58%) came against teams with losing records.

24 of his 33 SEC wins (73%) came against teams who finished 7-6 or worse.

There is nothing impressive about that. His numbers were inflated by playing terrible teams and never scheduling OOC teams with a pulse. A third of his total SEC wins came against Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

Fools gold.

I repeat, clearly you do not understand the degree of difficulty.

For most of their history.. Mississippi State has been one of the terrible teams which you say Mullen padded his win totals on.

Tell me about the degree of difficulty in more than half your wins coming against teams with losing records, a third of your wins coming against teams named Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

They beat ONE P5 team that won 9+ games in NINE SEASONS.

There is nothing “clearly impressive” about that.

You keep repeating the same, indefensible stance over and over - with no substantive evidence to back it up.

You want a debate, let’s debate. You’re not holding your own water right now.

Ok, framed another way..

It's impressive because for most of their history they haven't been too far removed from being "Kentucky and Vanderbilt" as a program. Jackie Sherrill had one solid 3 year stretch in a much weaker SEC and that's about it.

Not really sure how you can't see that the measuring stick for the team over in Starkville isn't beating top 25 opponents. It's beating opponents period, at a decent rate. And Mullen did that as well or better than any coach in the history of MSU football in arguably the toughest time to coach in the SEC West.

*Edit: And by the way, Jackie did a damn good job at Pitt and TAMU, which is super relevant here.

None of the available options are really doing all that hot. Taggart and FSU look absolutely terrible. Kelly has two losses. Frost lost his first game. Mullen is a decent fit and will be given time. At the very least he will get UF back to a place of respectability.
