Most teams can’t afford that. The boosters aren’t blank checks every year. Your school can afford that and it’s your money.

LSU spent $50M to get gaped by ole miss and Kentucky. That’s the most wasteful program in college football.
Notice you don’t hear them bragging about having the most expensive roster in college football anymore.

It seems like the roster gets more expensive every time someone talks about it.

It originally started around $25M.

I’m referencing LSU’s beat writers.
If you got a problem with that number it’s coming from the people who cover your program.

There have been quite a few hyped Transfer Portal QBs that haven't progressed or regressed as well (Mateer immediately comes to mind).

A few years ago I thought the recruiting rankings had improved as far as predicting how a kid would do in college. Now it seems like we're back to throwing shite against a wall and hoping a few of the 5*s live up to the billing.

I'm sure the transfer portal has hurt in that regard when no kid feels the need to stay in a system and improve while waiting for their shot, but that doesn't explain Arch and his QB Whisperer coach

LSU insiders are almost as bad as Ole Miss insiders

Does that change the fact that you’re paying Sam Leavitt $5M a year to throw the ball to other team?

Extrapolate from there.

I don't know what irks me more. The recruiting services, the "analytics" websites that push their numbers like ESPN, or the folks that slavishly follow them.

None of them know. Its still a subjective judgement. And if any of these numbers nerds were right ? Even right 2/3 of the time ?

Can you imagine how much money any school or NFL team would pay them to provide that service exclusively ? Or lets say ESPN's stupid fricking analytics were worth a damn ? How much money that group of nerds could actually make gambling on their own projections ? Instead of simply pushing their retarded numbers out for retarded masses to glom onto ?

And yes, I've known more than one millennial and Gen-Z retard that lost serious money trying to do just that. By looking at the ESPN probabilities, comparing it to the Online Odds, and placing bets.

Because none of these data providers know anything. They're just generating content. That's all.

Now be fair. A week ago, in Lexington, he also fumbled the ball to the other team. The kid has a diverse skill set. Tough to put a hard value number on something like that.

What gets me is that in the years leading up to the NIL decision we were told that a student athlete should be able to capitalize on their value to a program that was using their NIL.

How is there an established, real world "value" for an unproven high school recruit? How is it known that student athlete will be a multi-million dollar value to a program? NIL was always sold as a way for student athletes to be compensated for their value to a program that was essentially making money off their NIL. A high school student athlete has zero established value at the next level, and the bust ratio is extremely high across the board, especially when we are placing multi-million dollar evaluations on these kids.

It is all a scam.

We don't have one. You're right there. Right as rain.

What we do know, objectively, is that these football teams at the top end generate over $100 million in revenue. We know this through public records.

How you divide that up, after operating costs ? Beats me. Baffles most of these ADs as well apparently.

Its apparent that boosters, for now, are willing to write big checks to operate the thing at a loss The NASCAR model. That model didn't last. I don't think this one will either.

How do you know that's a fact?

How much was Leavitt as a transfer? That "proven" market comes with a pretty steep price tag.

I would rather spend that money on Leavitt with a bum wheel than on Bryce Underwood...

The HS megastars are the ones I am talking about in my OP. There are a lot of really good quality HS players worth taking on but when you are placing your program future on an 18yo that is not good sense.

Here is some Objective Reality...

Leavitt got hurt in first half of last season, had surgery, went into rehab for same. Did not participate physically in Spring. Limited physical work in Summer. Was not released to full contact action until Fall Camp.

Leavitt last 4 games

1,053 passing yard
77% completion
11 TDs
3 ints
9 yards per attempt
24 runs vs 42 in first 3 games

I will take his trending numbers. As for the cash that is relative to what the market is paying which is not for me to say.

Almost every SEC schools upper boundary is mid 30s. Get extra playoff money and most will be pushing 40m. Not that far off.

If Aggies can hold onto their recruiting class and find a qb in portal they could be set up for a nice run

I get what you are saying, but when a guy like MENSAH is a reported $7 million dollar player, then the system is out of whack. He’s an OK player. He can lead a loaded team, but he isn’t amazing. The number for a “proven” guy is just going to get higher, but proven just means with some experience. Mateer at OU is an easy example. He was supposed to be a Heisman level guy, and he has made life miserable for the Sooners. Paying that much to have a playoff contender without any chance of winning a championship for one year only to see the QB sink the team the next year is not sustainable. It’s not like the NFL where you can pay a QB to be the franchise for the next 10 years. The proven guys are going to give you 1 or maybe 2 years at best at a premium price, and they might just suck.

Arch inherited his ranking without the genes of the Manning family. It's the gamble that the NIL brings with it. But his family probably paid for half the newcomers to support him. So net, Texas probably saved money.
