How much money was wasted on HS phenoms like

Arch
Underwood
Nico
Rashada

Feel free to chime in others but leave out the coaches because that is another topic. My point here is that I would rather spend big money on a proven portal guy than a HS pimp.

Easton Royal is the latest on the list and I think he is going to be great and I would still like to have him but I just cant throw aronud that kind of cash on "hopefuls"

Yea agreed. The high school recruit is much less valuable now. Like Easton royal going to Florida for over a mil. Let him go

Coaches that can’t develop need QBs other programs developed for 2-3 years and then you pay about $5M extra. HS recruiting is cheaper.

Paying that is better than running out a recruit like Marcel Reed three years in a row.

The future is dropping bags on 4 star linemen out of HS and poaching skill players from g6 schools after they develop.

That’s more expensive than recruiting. You can’t spend $50M every year. Where are you guys coming up with so much money?

Stay on subject. Don’t make this thread about transfer portal vs HS recruiting about Reed. Talk football.

How much was Leavitt as a transfer? That "proven" market comes with a pretty steep price tag.

Reed is a very good example of the dangers of high school recruiting.

You pay a guy for three years and he's one of the worst in the conference when you expect him to at least be serviceable.

Better to just go get someone who can at least be serviceable.

Paying any college player the amount of money they are making is total stupidity. That goes double for HS players. NIL and the portal is destroying the sport. Offensive line play has never been so bad in college football. Teams might start out with a decent line. Let 2 or 3 injuries happen though and line play becomes really bad and the more injuries that occur the more pathetic line play becomes. Thats all across the sport. No school can afford to pay enough lineman so they can have quality depth should injuries start occurring at a high clip.

What are you talking about? The team isn’t losing just bc of Reed. He gets paid about 20% of what your QB does. Just sit this talk out if you’re going to turn it into an A&M/Reed shite posting.

The high school recruit has less maturity, less experience, and less muscle …. always has.

The difference is that the current fiasco interjects a huge level of risk because you’re no longer guaranteed the necessary time required to get beyond those limitations.

Agree with you about signing a proven commodity versus an unproven high schooler ….. there’s just no time under the current system, and the quality of the product has suffered.

No shite posting, just a real world example of the failure of your "logic". I can't help it that you let the truth hurt your feelings.

There haven't been many non-transfer quarterbacks who have won natties lately.

Georgia does very well with HS recruiting, development, and not paying a premium on the portal.

Teams in the SEC can absolutely afford 40~m a year on players.

Programs with cash like Texas will overpay for the mannings of the world.

Kentucky is getting ready to be a test-case on this. I'm interested, not just from a fan interest, but just as a "how is this going to work" study.

Will Stein recruited well enough from High School in year one. Top 20 last I looked. Now, can he keep them ? More important - will the kids that hit the field this year as freshman give the Cats a "home team discount" ?

That last part is key. It'll depend on the kid, of course. Stein talked a lot about going after kids where the money wasn't the only driving factor. Lets find out.

IU and UofL seem to be going straight portal. Nothing wrong with that either. Its interesting to watch.
