Was Auburn firing Malzahn the dumbest coaching decision in SEC football history?

Clearly, firing Petrino has resulted in 15 years of misery for us. But that wasn’t football related. Auburn was so disgusted with Malzahn’s job performance, they shelled out almost $30 mln to make him go away. Then….this.

2017 SECC broke them. They were on such a high after those back to back wins vs #1.

No, but hiring Cohen has to be up there.

Gus was a one trick pony. Once everyone adapted to tempo he had nothing. He wasn’t successful anywhere else. Auburn was right to fire him, they just made poor hiring decisions after that.

The barners don't have an elite history. They have always been a mediocre program.
Only one instance of back to back 10 win seasons in their entire history.

Shhhh. Don't give them any ideas or they may rehire him.

Malzahn killed my enthusiasm for the program. I’m trying to get it back.

Nah, I'd say hiring Derek Dooley or some other shite coach would be worse.

Check the championships.
You only exist to beat BAMA every once in awhile. That's why your program sucks.

Auburn fans want a program where the team is built to have a chance at an SEC Championship. To do that, you have to win on the road against Big Six teams.
Malzahns road record against Big Six teams: 1-15.

Auburn has 12 undefeated seasons. Bama has 5. We are above mediocre by a long shot. That includes playing the Big 6 more than others.

Doug Barfield was a year or two away from positioning AU to be a perennial juggernaut. And they ran Tubby out after losing to Saban that one time. So those were pretty dumb decisions.

But when they do whip that arse, it’s usually in dramatic fashion.
You have to give the boogs that much.

It's been six years mate. This year will likely make it seven.

Gus was done after that. See how he did at ucf. But auburns hires were so bad, that’s what the issue was.
