That's awesome.
To answer the OP's question as I was around here in 2009 and 2010 (with a different account), "1957" was not used against Auburn enough to be noticeable.
My guess is that "1980" gets used as much as it does because it is known to trigger UGA fans.

Someone sounds scared of the monster being built in Athens
Looks like the sleeping giant woke up. Thanks for letting Kirby steal all of Saban's knowledge.

Ease up killer... I'm not giving up 09 or 11 for that.

This is the schedule UGA won a national championship with in 1980:
Tennessee 5-6
Texas A&M 4-7
Clemson 6-5
TCU 1-10
Ole Miss 3-8
Vandy 2-9
Kentucky 3-8
South Carolina 8-4
Florida 8-4
Auburn 5-6
GA Tech 1-9-1
Notre Dame 9-2-1
So understand this for UGA in 1980:
- Their highest quality opponents in the 1980 regular season were two 8-4 teams: Florida and SOUTH CAROLINA.
- They played two 1-win teams on their 11-game regular season schedule.
- 8 of the 11 teams they played on their regular season schedule had losing records.
- Their regular season opponent winning percentage that year was 37.8% (in other words, their average opponent was a 3 or 4 win team).
- The Sugar Bowl saw fit to have them face a Notre Dame team that already had a loss *and* a tie in the regular season for the "national championship" game.
Since (and including) 1980, UGA has 1 national championship and Auburn has 1 national championship.
Since (and including) 1980, UGA has 6 SEC football championships, Auburn has 7.
Since (and including) 1980, UGA has 1 perfect regular season, Auburn has 3.
Since 1980, UGA has had 1 Heisman winner, Auburn has had 2.
Since 1980, UGA has had 1 player picked 1st overall in the NFL Draft, Auburn has had 3.

They couldn’t even play in the postseason. Banned for paying players.

Were they on probation? or is now the qualifier a bowl win for NC's, or what about the AP?

Yes - taunting Auburn about not winning a title in a long time was a huge thing, especially when Alabama wasn't very good and didn't have much to brag about on the field at the time.
This statement tells me that you are a real Alabama fan. One that was there and remembers the bad years.
The band wagon riders know about nothing pre-Saban. They were "fans" of other teams back then.
Have an upvote.

They won't. They'll fuga it up somehow.

Not really. Auburn was the AP Champ, not the Houlgate champ.
And Ohio state got the UPI
Alabama polytechnic institute was awarded the AP
They were ineligible to get UPI because they were being sanctioned by the ncaa

Hey, I won’t sit an argue with people I don’t even know. If you choose to claim 1957, have at it. But, no one recognizes that as AU’s title.

Literally everyone does recognize it.
You retards are the only one who claim 1941.

Nope, you’re wrong.
About which part, Harvey?
Nobody is recognizing the UPI. And NOBODY believes Alabama was the best team in 1941 except the sidewalk trash like you who wear the Got 17 t-shirts or whatever number you've made up now.

Or is “1980” just a uniquely special thing in the SEC Rant lexicon?
Well we have 83 and 93 also, so why would they say 1957?? Both are recognized by the NCAA (Remember the NCAA does not crown a football champion).

This may or may not make you feel old but 2010 was 11 years ago. Hard to believe.

Because they were voted #1 in the AP poll.
Unless you want to start rolling back the numbers on our helmets, you better stop throwing rocks in the split title glass house.

You've gotta love Bama fans trying to police others in what they should claim as a national title.
