Just terrible. I’m sorry to hear of this loss for our Vols brothers and sisters, but most especially for Mr. Rucker’s family and loved ones.

God speed.l and God bless.

Sports aside this is tragic. Has a wife, 4 year old son, and a baby on the way. Prayers to the Rucker family, his friends, and most importantly his wife. She is going to have to pick up the pieces and be strong for the kids when she herself needs support. God have mercy on them - this is awful.

Ugh that’s just the worst. They really do need to do something about I-40. It’s all a bottleneck just waiting for tragedies like this to happen. I left work from downtown at like 3:30 and it was already starting to bottleneck around 17th street and papermill…then Cedar Bluff all of the way to Watt Road. It’s ridiculous at this point and shite needs to be done.

Prayers for his family. Like someone previously said, if you have been in the SEC world you have probably come across Wes. He has posted in UGA forums. A good guy that loved his Vols.

That ~20 miles stretch feels like a death trap, traffic is moving way too fast with how distracted people are and how often it comes to a complete standstill.

Agreed and with the mass boost of people moving to Knoxville from other states - we simply don't have the infrastructure to handle it. Neither does Nashville.

Prayers for the family. I lost a brother over a decade ago, and I don't wish that on anyone.

Vol Nation, set up a GoFundMe for his family. They're going to need it.

It really is. Pellissippi northbound to Oak Ridge isn’t much better either. The expansion of the surrounding areas is crazy. As a Farragut guy that moved to North Knox, I got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Campbell station when I went there. The infrastructure can’t handle the influx, yet they just keep building and only repave the roads…the next fiscal year.

Horrible and so sad. Rucker was one of the first online SEC beat writers that I can remember reading when things really started moving online and on social media.

My wife is a UT alum and my MIL lives in west Knox so are in that stretch of 40 a good bit and it always makes me nervous - and I grew up in Atlanta traffic.

How fast, and how distracted, was the pickup for it to end up on top of his car?

Does any of the Vol folks here know if they’re starting a GoFundMe for the family? He had a child with medical issues and I believe another on the way.

That's horrible but what does "Vol reporter" mean? Was he with a Knoxville paper, TV station, employed by the school, or what?

He worked for Knoxville's NBC affiliate TV station, and I believe before that wrote for Volquest, the UT On3 site.
