The schools have played twice in a home and home in the 1980s. At both games the scoreboards said USC East vs USC West. When So Cal won the first game they switched the scoreboard to USC vs S.Carolina. When we won the rematch at the end it was switched. to The USC and So.Cal. Both schools got along better and had some fun with it back then.

this correction was done on behalf of the Carolina Alumni & fans who were USC Fighting Gamecocks for the 218 years before 2019's marketing mishap.

According to Wiki, Sakerlina's football team was first referred to as the Gamecocks in 1900.

I've always referred to Southern Cal as SC.

They should.

UNC doesn't use this, and I think the simple "Carolina" is honestly a pretty cool moniker to have if you're the only school in the area using it.

I disagree, the entire Eastern US views UT as Tennessee.

Embarrassing we even used “UofSC” in the first place. Kind of worse we are backing off of it only 3 years later, but who cares it needed to be done.

I’m just convinced this is how people in these areas keep their jobs. Need ‘work’ to justify their salaries.

frick YOU SOCAL. FIGHT US.

Eta: And the irony of this happening while former HC of OU Lincoln Riley is the HC at SoCal while his buddy and former assistant HC Shane Beamer at OU is now HC at USC is not lost on me.

Kind of a tired argument on this site at this point tbh.

Most people that I went to school referred to our school as "Texas". When I hear UT, I usually think of Texas because I'm hearing it in Austin, but otherwise I completely understand why Tennessee is also widely recognized when the two letters are mentioned.

I mean... both official names start with "University" and end with a state that starts with the letter "T"

I'm not sure why people get so bent out of shape over it and "who has the right to use it". It was always "Texas" to us, so if "UT" is really that important to Tennessee, they can use the moniker. It's fine by us. We'll still be known as UT to others as well even though we don't really incorporate it into our branding as much as the block T or the longhorn logo.

I just can't believe we haven't figured out another home/home series since then.

It should happen once a decade.

Doesn't surprise me that they'd pull this shite.

Some of the most arrogant fans I've ever had to deal with at an away game when Texas played there in 2017

Maybe for y'all and Tennessee but SoCal pissed us off as alumni and fans when they sued for the rights to the initials "USC" in a California court and our admin at the time didn't even fight it. Administration here has finally grown a pair and said frick y'all, take us to court again bc WE are USC.

Also waiting on the baby blue tarholes to cry about us and "Carolina".

The worst was when College of Charleston (CofC) social media started trolling us for stealing "of" from them to use in our new acronym.

Paying a marketing firm millions of dollars to come up with a brand that everyone hated and barely lasted 3 years is so South Carolina it hurts.

Just goes to show how chicken shite our leadership has been. They actually relied on the polling of a marketing firm on "UofSC" over the obvious vitriol expressed by students, alumni, and stakeholders when the decision was being made.

Our new president seems to be a breath of fresh air.

Both use Carolina on their various jerseys and on their scoreboards. When they play in Chapel Hill it’ll read Carolina vs S Carolina, USC, or something along those lines. When it’s Columbia it’ll say Carolina vs N Carolina or UNC.

Whether it’s Carolina or USC it doesn’t matter which school you’re referring to. I was just irked that our admin just willingly gave it up without warning 2019 which was opposed by every Gamecock fan and alum.

At least South Carolina has a respectable loyal fan base unlike Southern Cal or UNC.
