thats the worst part. He got punished for doing the correct thing. Extremely sad.

This is horrible to hear. Prayers for his family.

Y'all stay safe out there, looks like another round of bad weather is on the way today.

This hits close to home even though I did not know him. Having been involved with competitive swimming with my child, I know how hard he must have worked to get to where he was as a college student-athlete in the prime of his young life to have it all taken away so abruptly.

This is definitely one of those life is not fair tragedies. Sincere condolences to family and friends.

frick... I swam at bama :( this year was the first college meet I attended in almost 10 years, and if he was at the uf meet I definitely met him. Day ruined [on] off.

I was a competitive swimmer through high school and this guy is the same age as me, so this is hitting me pretty hard as well. There's a pretty good chance that I've been at meets with him back in high school and didn't know it.

From everything I've heard he was a great guy. Its just awful. RIP and thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and the Alabama swimming and diving team.

Hope this doesn't sound crass, but if it's not my lot in life to die at an old age on a comfy bed, I wanna go out saving others.

Don't know the full story but if it is true that he saved his girlfriend basically knowing that if he did he would die is one of the most courageous actions I can think of. On top of that to be in college and be willing to risk your life in an effort to save someone else man thats unbelievable. He's a true hero

Saw where his mom said he wanted to swim for alabama and be a hero and he did both of those things

No one should die that young. RIP young man. May family, friends, and all who knew and loved him find peace and take comfort in the memories of their shared laughter, fun, and love.
