And the song "Dixie" predates the Civil War and refers to the South, and has absolutely nothing to do with the Confederacy. But even if it did, it was a part of our history, like it or not.

Yes, and the Heart gets smaller every year and much of the time the slogan is left off. But Dixie, the name has nothing to do with the Confederacy. It is said that Abraham Lincoln loved the song.

You may not remember but the Georgia Redcoat Band was originally the Dixie Redcoat Band. A few woke students and faculty objected and the word Dixie was removed. I have distant relatives who were killed in the Revolutionary Wae so I want the name Redcoats removed. My neighbor ha distant relatives who were kicked in the Battle if Little Big Horn by a band of Indians Native Americans, so he wants the word band removed. in the future the group of students who play musical instruments at the Georgia football games will be known as “The”. The announcer in the stadium can simply say “Here Comes The”.

Can people not use context anymore? Even if Dixie did at one time reference the ugly parts of the South's history (which I would argue against, but thats not the debate here) its clearly not being used that way here.

I find it so sad that this is what has happened at Alabama. They removed the plaque that honored the boys, not soldiers, that stayed on campus and tried to defend it during the Civil War several years ago, rename buildings, and now this. You can't change history by removing any reference to it, you can only learn from history so you don't go down the same path.

As per usual liberals are completely ignorant of history. Even Abraham Lincoln loved Dixie. He always had his military bands play it before whatever those damned Yankees played.
