UGA fans, with all the reminders of 1980 - which was worse, 2012 or 2017?

I am genuinely curious which of those two "almosts" hurt worse?
2012 SECCG - In scoring position with a few seconds left, ball batted at the LOS causing the receiver to catch it and slip. Game ends, Alabama goes on to obliterate a Notre Dame team that would have been destroyed by UGA as well.
2017 NCG - After taking a 3 point lead with a very long 50+ yard FG in OT, you sack a freshman QB to put him over 40 yards from the end zone and 26 yards from just a first down... only for him to look off a safety and end the season for UGA with a 41 yard pass for a TD and 3 point win.
I know we talk about "the drought" on here a lot, but I also cannot think of another school with that many years since their last title to also come so very close to ending the drought not once but twice in the past 8 years. In a 6 year stretch, UGA was legitimately one play away from winning it all in two different seasons. Only Oklahoma has gotten more chances and failed to capitalize in a similar time frame.

I was at the 2017 game, and it wasn't as bad for me as other people.
Remember, Bama missed a 30 yard FG to win it. I thought we would lose then.
Then, Fromm got sacked and we had to hit a 50-yard FG. I thought we would lose then.
When Bama finally won, it kind of just felt like our luck had run out. I thought we would lose in 4 or 5 previous situations.
In 2012, I felt like Bama and Georgia were really evenly matched, and we fought hard throughout the game.
In 2017, as soon as the 2nd half started, it became clear we would struggle to hold on. I decided Bama would win halfway through the 3rd quarter. That's why 2012 was worse. I thought we could win until the final seconds.
ETA: Not to mention what WG said. I felt like we had a bright future ahead of us. Also, that season was awesome. The SEC Championship, Rose Bowl, and regular season beatdowns were just so damn fun.

UGA still has like 14 years on Arkansas in terms of droughts

Im on phone so can't type as much as usual but I made a long post on this before about why 12 was worse. In a nutshell, 12 felt like our last real chance at anything and more of a blip on the radar while 17, while probably sucking worse in the moment, at least doesn't feel like the end of the road. We'll have more chances with Kirby but I don't think anyone felt richt was gonna get us there again after that.

It certainly was closer to hoisting the trophy, that's for certain.
Though listening to the Georgia radio announcer make fun of Tua's name right after the sack made him throwing the game winning TD pass right after that much sweeter.

Easily 17, but it’s worse for uga fans than just those 2. 2007 and 2002 were also painful close calls. I fear what pain 2022 could bring.

Agree with this. That game broke Richt and he never really had the same fire after it.
2012 felt like the end of the road. 2017 felt like the beginning.

Frick you for bringing this up.
In 2017, by the middle of the fourth quarter with the way y'all were playing, I was expecting a loss. Missing the FG at the end of regulation only prolonged the inevitable.
I'd say 2012 hurt more. We were moving the ball at the end and y'all looked beat. That loss took longer to get over. Almost as long as losing to Fresno State in the CWS.

Well, I'm most certainly not a Georgia fan, but I think it's indisputable 2017 stung more than 2012.

Good point. I was thinking about both games without any long-term context.

None of it hurts worse than being associated with the state of Alabama in any capacity. We're good with things the way they are. We'll win a football ship soon, and we'll still be Georgians, thank God.

You seem to be hurting worse than anyone else in this thread, tbh

I've lived in both.
Georgia doesn't really have much of a leg up on Alabama, except for Atlanta - which most UGA fans only claim as part of Georgia when it suits their interests.

At least our women didn't get arse raped by Sherman and his marauding army. No wonder your state has a culture of losing. Sherman made you all beta cucks.
Oh...and you have Atlanta - a shithole of a city if there ever was one.

Georgia played three championship games against Alabama in Atlanta over the last decade, held a double digit lead in all three games and lost those games on Alabama's last possession.
Damn.
Damn.
