Tuscaloosa Will Be Home to Sports Illustrated’s First College Town Resort

quote:

Think Tuscaloosa is already the ultimate experience in college sports, especially when one of the University of Alabama teams is in action? Even so, the bar is about to get raised again, this time by one of the biggest names in sports media.

Wednesday morning, Sports Illustrated launched its new line of college town resorts by announcing that the first will be built in Tuscaloosa, home to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The facility on the northern side of the Black Warrior River at Rice Mine Loop, is slated to open in "late 2025."

Is this satire? Why would you want to go on vacation in Tuscaloosa?

So it’s pretty much ESPN Zone with a pool?

Hope they don’t add a Sportsbook. REC would eat bigly

I didn't see a mention of a sportsbook which I found surprising. That's the only way I could see this working.

I’m with ya. Goes for just about any SEC town not named Nashville. But more beds for home games wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Ah there it is. I heard a rumour about a "Sports illustrated hotel" coming to Fayetteville. I thought it was some weird mis-hearing of a conversation that I got secondhand.

Looks like some kind of Indian Casino "resort"hotel.

Hope we don't get one.

Sounds like a corporate hellscape… the trash sidewalk fans in AL will love it though. Throw in a D&B and Margaritaville.

I remember when the SI swimsuit issue was worth buying.

SI went woke and now they have to change their business model. Pathetic.

They should have done that earlier at the height of Bama's dominance. Kind of striking out on the downside of the gold rush.

Unfortunately.

Will be about 1/2 mile from my home. I would have much preferred it remained timber.

Tuscaloosa has grown way too much. I wish about a third of the people here would move away and never return.

The end of SI was being acquired by a VC firm.

Well, that and the fact that magazine purchases and subscriptions have fallen off a cliff.

Have you ever actually set foot in Tuscaloosa? I don't think this will end up like the pictures show.

I envision something more along these lines:

Or this
