One of the most accomplished and respected coaches in college basketball history, Tubby Smith built a remarkable career spanning more than three decades and seven Division I programs.

Smith’s career was highlighted by leading Kentucky to the 1998 national championship in his first season with the Wildcats. He guided five different programs to the NCAA Tournament and earned national and conference coaching honors throughout his career.

Known for his leadership, player development, and sustained success, Smith compiled nearly 650 victories during his distinguished head-coaching career.

Much like Cal, Kentucky fans didn’t realize what they had when he was there and ran him off and learned.

I have to give Kentucky credit; they waited to run him off. That is progress.

Love Tubby, and loved that era, because that's when I was at UK. Chuck Hayes one of my all time favorite Cats. I met Tubby at Sal's one night less than 10 yrs ago, I wanna say he was at Texas Tech, but he was in town. He walked by my table, I stood up and said "Coach, I don't want to bother you, I just wanna shake your hand and say thank you."
