Ancient history

The sun is brighter in College Station, so bright the Horns want some of it.

New scoreboard starts in 2025.

Times have changed, read my sig.

Can’t wait to play them again.

I chose '67 for the second fact due to it being the win by A&M that stood out in the midst of a drought of losses to Texas. It's a mere two years from 1965, which was chosen because I love the number 61, the number of remaining hairs on my head, that's why.

1965 is a useful demarcation point for the rivalry as that's when A&M stopped requiring corps participation of all student. Meaning A&M transitioned from a military school to a state university, evening the playing field athletically.

Horns love to beat their chests about wins over A&M when A&M was basically another Citadel. Of course we lost a lot of games back then.

Ironically, you also had your greatest success in that period.

Another reason aggy won over that span was that got caught cheating and eventually placed on probation. Now before aggy claims “ UT has always cheated”, we were not as dumb as aggy and never caught.

Demarcation points at the Institutional level

1965: no longer military-only

2012: A&M surpasses Horns in undergraduate enrollment (>52k), Aggy joins SEC

2014: Kyle Field expansion = largest football stadium in Texas ~102k

2019: A&M matches Horns athletic revenue $200mil

2021: NIL is declared legal, semi pro sports begin

2024: PUF (endowment) is reorganized by constitutional amendment. A&M 1/3, Horns 1/3, other systems (TTech, Houston, TxState split the other 1/3).

2025: Horns follow Aggy by joining SEC, A&M is the largest undergraduate student body in the USA ~65k. Horns are landlocked in downtown Austin, undergraduate enrollment plateaus ~55k.

Doesn't Texas A&M get 1/3 of the PUF fund and Longhorns 2/3's now? So Longhorns are about to lose 1/3, right?

Texas Exes don’t control the state legislature. Expect a Joint Resolution in 2023, constitutional amendment voted by 2024. PUF belongs to all texans, expect Horns to lose $18billion overnight.

Couple that with downtown Austin being a cesspool. If Sark and Archie ain't the answer, the longhorns are screwed for a very long time.

The distribution is for the new money coming from PUF. Texas isn't losing half of their existing endowment.

So much dumb on this thread. First of all everyone understands UT Austin and the PUF allocation are based on a system of schools w over 240k students, not just Austin vs college station, Corpus Christi, and the shady quasar setup?

Cant imagine anyone in the UT system cares about the college station campus heavily watering down the faculty student ratio over the last 10 years to pump enrollment numbers. UT Austin was the largest campus in the US in the early 2000’s (overtaking Ohio state) and specifically moved away from that.

This has been talked about for over a decade and has gone nowhere. I'd be surprised if it started moving anytime soon either. It would make a level of sense though to start supporting places like UNT, UH, TTU etc.. though.
