Bill Synder is the better coach between the two. Michigan was a powerhouse before Bo. Bill took over a program that was on the verge of going away. If Bill had the talent and tradition of other schools then he would had won multiple NCs.

Bill Snyder is a notch and a half below Saban, not several rungs down. He was just painting with a different canvas. I really respect his coaching abilities that much.

BK has two DII titles but not titles on the major level which is what this list is based on. But his overall resume puts him on this list.

Broyles, Dodd, Vaught claim titles won by lesser valued selectors in the NFF and FWAA. AP and BCS held more weight value in the selection process.

Take out the coaches where the NCAA recognizes their championship. I think what Bill Snyder did, he should be #1.

Others to consider:
Mike Bellotti, Mike Gundy, John Cooper, Pat Dye, Chris Peterson, Barry Alvarez, and Hayden Fry

Do you live in Atlanta? Have you been to a game at their high school stadium? Go and listen to the chatter. We can beat them into the ground and you'll hear fans say crap like, "1980. They haven't won anything. We have more natties. They're chokers."
I heard students saying crap like that after we beat them in baseball!!!

Saban had more to work with at Bama and has much greater tradition. So it was a lot easier to get recruits to Tuscaloosa, everyone wants to play for a winner and Bama is that. That doesn't take anything away from him but he had a much easier path than Bill. This is why coaches are subjected to opinion on who is the best. I can't see Saban doing any better than Bill at Kansas State and I don't certainly see him taking that job.

But going back to Kansas State, that couldn't be said for Bill in Manhattan. He couldn't get the players to come play for a perennial loser. So had to rely on solid coaching with disciplined and experienced players to beat more talented opponents.

Some programs have easier environments to win more than others. But Synder proved that just better coaching can turn any program around.

Bama wasn’t winning much at the time Saban took over.

In CFB, once you get to the top 10-20 most resourceful programs winning is all about the HC. The biggest difference between Bama and the rest is 40 years of Bryant and Saban.

The BCS was supposed to fix the split national champions of the old system but that failed. So going from human error to the computers didn't solve the problem of who the real champions were.

They weren't winning a lot compared to today but the worst stretch of the Bama years is still much better than Kansas State historically. Saban took over when they had bad years but the history never left and his ring from LSU gave him a leg up. Yes they are and were a powerhouse with Saban and Bryant but they still had a very good history prior to those coaches.

What Saban did was impressive but what Synder did at Kansas state by resurrecting them from the dead is more impressive.

More that you could possibly imagine.

Was there in '19 and most of their fans were gone at half and the one's I actually saw in the 1st half said almost nothing.

Glad you've been able to avoid the smug GT fans. I haven't been as lucky. I've been going to UGA-Tech games since my freshman year in 1977. I was there in '19 as well with two of my friends from church who are GT fans. They didn't say a word the entire game. It might be the younger fans who are so arrogant. I'm not sure. Again, glad you've been able to avoid them. They are getting quieter.

Unlike A&M we don't claim trophies that are made up by the media or sports fans that are looking for melt trophies.

Mark Richt has lost control of lots of things. For example there are several empty shelves at the grocery stores
