Meyer only coached 6 years in the SEC. Would put Vaught, Jordan, or Dooley on there before him.

eta: or Pat Dye instead of Shug, I don't know. Someone who at least coached in the conference for 10 years.

Nick Saban is a far better HC than Bear Bryant was. And the SEC Saban has coached in was/is waaaay better than the SEC of the late 1950s through early 1980s.

Saban is great coach for this era.
Bryant was for his era.

Apples and oranges there.

Shug won exactly one SEC title.

Not close to one of the five best.

True. Unlimited scholarships in Bryant's era. More parity and more elite skill players. If Saban coaches long enough, his success will dwarf Bryants. Saban's has dominated CFB for the better part of 10 years at an unprecedented level of success. It took Bryant over 25 years to accomplish what Saban has done in 10 years, not even including his success at LSU.

I'm glad you guy's remind us of the Bryant rule. The one where he could get all of the players. HAHA
