Why has Bama played Penn State so much?

We played home and away every year of the 1980s (1981-1990) - 5 times in State College, 3 times in Tuscaloosa, 2 times in Birmingham.
On top of that
- 1959 Liberty Bowl (in Philadelphia)
- 1975 Sugar Bowl
- 1979 Sugar Bowl
- 2010/2011 Home and Home

Home and Home in 80's I believe.
Didn't realize AU met with FSU that much

So they have played the same teams the most times in the same order?

Yea it's kind of crazy - the first 2 make sense, but Arkansas St, Houston and LaTech being the next 3 in order for both is a little strange

That’s interesting.
You spurred me to look up some of our other in-state schools.
I was surprised we’ve only ever played Texas State three times, ever.
Both Florida and Georgia have some great lists there.
Thanks for a great thread.

Very regional
Yep, interesting to see the clusters of common opponents match the specific region in terms of more ACC type schools or more SWC/Big 8 schools or more B1G schools (Kentucky/Missouri).

Clemson showing up a lot, too.

Texas A&M’s list is embarrassing. I guess when your main focus is sucking penises, supporting trannys, and celebrating low testosterone, it’s actually about what you’d expect. Pathetic.
More so that they've been in 3 leagues that make up about 1/3 of all the P5 schools.
17 of their 18 most played opponents in D1 were ex-P5 conference mates and didn't count. Not a lot of options left at that point. For instance, they used to play LSU out of conference, but that doesn't count because now they are in the same conference.

I would list them as a "soft" rival. They have crushed many a AU dream in baseball.
