Not true in the least
First of all fencing is a team sport not divided between men and women for NCAA purposes. There are 6 individual winners every year but I can tell you most of those champs come from OSU/PSU/ND/Columbia/Princeton because they get points for the teams who are in contention
Stanford hasn't won a national title in fencing since I was in school or maybe ever

Is there an omission? Where's Bama?

Sheesh. That’s impressive. Assuming swimming is a big part of that?
Combined with extremely high academic standards. Money makes a difference in just about everything.

Most schools have fencing clubs that operate under the USA Fencing Foundation. The divisions are age based not under a collegiate governing body. In my Club at GCSU we allowed various members that were not students but simply paid club fees. We had friendlies with both college clubs and non college clubs mainly in the Georgia region with UGA, GaTech, and the Downtown Augusta Fencing Club being the most frequent group meets.
Gaza Martinez was my coach and liked to have the more experienced guys work on technique by teaching a couple nights a week when we were doing our workouts. Great times, gym, class, bowling, gym, fencing. Weeks were Monday-Thursday with larger travel events or individual events in Atlanta. Back before the gout and arthritis wrecked me.

Did you ever fence with or know a guy from UGA named Andrew, fiddle player? He was big into fencing at UGA around 15-20 years ago.

Synchronized swimming is not an NCAA sport.

Ohio State just won their 33rd U.S. Collegiate National Championship. Stanford isn’t a gnat on our girls asses in that sport.

Ivy League schools don't offer athletic scholarships and thus can't do this
Meh,they offer needs based financial aid which can have more perks
than a regular D1 scholarship.

they must also meet the academic criteria you described.
No doubt they have to meet high academic standards but many still have lower standards than the normal student.
