I would happily welcome Kroger down here. Winn Dixie sucks. And Kroger is also the best grocery store in Richmond. Food Lion is shite, and Ukrops made you take out a loan to buy from there. Not to mentioned, wouldn't sell alcohol, or open on Sundays.

With some exceptions, I think it just depends on the local store. We have a Martin's, a Kroger, and a Publix, and I shop at Martin's. It works fine. Really, from my experience, I look for the following:
Fresh produce
A good meat department/butcher
A good pharmacy
If it meets all criteria, I'm cool with it. I don't worry about what's on the shelves - nearly all chain grocery stores will have the major brands anyway.
