Years ago someone said that Tom Petty was Bob Dylan for redneck stoners.
Tom's music is pretty basic but not bad. There are way worse "basic music" songwriter/guitars who are way worse. Steve Miller would be one of those.

Agree with that. I put him up there with Neil Young, Crosby, Stills and Nash. Very good artists. Just not the apex of some of the others you mentioned. For me personally growing up in the 1980’s and 1990’s, I’m more of a Soundgarden, NIN, Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam listener but I enjoy classic rock from the 1960’s and 1970’s also

Same..I love grunge and whatever Tool is considered..Maynard ranges so much from angry to thoughtful. Hard to place.
