To me, there's nothing better than being 14, swimming in the morning, then listening to Harry Caray and Bill Murray drunk as shite calling a Cubs game at 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, watching some guys that look like accountants (Ryne Sandberg, Greg Maddux) play a game. And knowing it's going to be the same thing tomorrow. It felt timeless and idyllic. Nowadays, it feels like the years are flying by, I turn my head and college freshmen are now retiring from the pros.
Just a different pace

You seem like a good shoot the shite, beer on the porch, solves the world’s problems kinda fellow.

WGN/TBS created a lot of national Cubs/Braves fans. I lived in N Texas and TBS beat the Rangers to our market.
It was the first time I was able follow a team all season. And it was something to do every night.
You can get into even middling teams that way.

It's the only major sport where white people dominate, so of course it will be popular in the South.

A lot of kids used to grow up playing little league baseball. You did not, and that is a shame. You missed out. A lot of people grew up at the ball fields. So I guess in a way it is cultural.

Um… Hockey? Golf? Soccer? Lesser sports llacrosse and tennis?
Yeah, your comment doesn’t make much sense. If it was only about race, some of those other sports would be more popular in the south. But they aren’t. Again, lots of kids grew up playing baseball, and that helped mold a lot of people who grew up to be adults.. it is America’s pasttime.
As much as you want it to be, it isn’t because of racism. If you look at MLB, it is pretty evenly split with 60% white players and 40% minorities.

Its the most strategizing sport. Every pitch is strategy for, whose batting, what pitch to throw, placement of infield, placement of outfield, what pitch to throw, is batter righty or lefty, whose on deck, how many outs etc etc. more to it than any other sport.

I love to play baseball. Watching it in person is fun as well.

If you grew up playing baseball, then it's a sport you absolutely learned to love. Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in any sport - try to hit a 95 mph fastball followed up by a 85 mph breaking ball. The batter has less than half a second to try to recognize what the pitcher is throwing. You have in game decisions with various matchups that are like a game of chess. It's an incredible sport that is very challenging physically and mentally.

This is quite true. Baseball fans tend to be more ex-jocks and such. At least half of football/basketball fans never touched a ball in their cuck life. I never thought that through but it's true.

Take it from Annie Savoy,
“Walt Whitman once said, ‘I see great things in baseball. It’s our game. The American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us.’ You could look it up.”

Well...it ain't cricket! Bahahaha!
I find myself sort of meh when they monkey around the rules in basketball or football (pro football kickoff blows!) - but if they mess with baseball I am spun up - pitching clock, possible robot umps, etc...mainly as a purist there is just something sacred about baseball. Although I grew up when there was loyalty both ways and you had Brooks Robinson spend his whole life as an Oriole whereas today he would have been on 4 different teams in his career. Its history, pagaentry, strategy, simplicity and nothing amps it up more than a close race to the end of the season.

Here's the entire Bull Durham Annie Savoy soliloquy, which may or may not help explain why some of us just love baseball:
"I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology.
I've tried them all, I really have. And the only church that truly feeds the soul day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.
