The SEC East is the weakest P5 division and has been for some time now. The SEC West is by far the toughest division in football. Time is not going to balance this out, Vandy, Kentucky and Missouri are not going to be competitive most years.

Competitively balanced SEC Divisions could look something like this-

Alabama
LSU
South Carolina
Tennessee
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Kentucky

Georgia
Auburn
Texas A&M
Florida
Mississippi State
Missouri
Vanderbilt

I agree. We should change them to exactly this way for this upcoming season.

Oh and Alabama should not be our rotating cross Division opponent either.

Carry on.

The sec east has three potentially great young coaches in mullen smart and champ. The easy may not fully catch up with the West in the next five years. I do think it will be very improved by then.

Just hold on, these things always turn around at some point. Florida won't be down forever.

Divisions only exist because NCAA made a rule 28 years ago that a conference could play a championship game if the conference had 12 teams and split itself into two divisions. It’s why the SEC added SC and Arky in ‘92.

Does this rule even make sense anymore? What’s the point of requiring separate divisions for a championship game?

So I agree, dump the divisions, pick 3 permanents and let’s rotate games with everyone. It would create more interest within the conference because each season would bring different variables to scheduling.

Another benefit for us in the East - None of us want to travel to Mizzou and the whole conference should share in the price we in the East are paying for the latest expansion.

Why do you say that? You really think Alabama cares who they play in the SEC? Alabama is the reason why other SEC teams sell out their stadiums.

The weakest P5 division? This is not correct.

I’m of the opinion that the three states with two SEC teams (TN, MS, AL) ought to be split into two divisions.
Otherwise, I’m indifferent.
I like your proposed divisions, though.

I think it should be:

East

South Carolina
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Auburn
Kentucky

West

A&M
Missouri
Arkansas
LSU
Alabama
Mississippi
Mississippi State

Whatever the current state of things, whether Smart is L'il Saban like Georgia fans hope, whether Mullen is the man to take Florida back to Spurrier/Meyer levels, both of those teams are just one great coach away from being the same level Alabama is currently.

The same can be said for A&M, and to a lesser degree LSU.

Easier said than done, but it happened for Alabama which really isn't as good a recruiting job as A&M, Florida, Georgia, and LSU.

Tennessee's population increase in Middle Tennessee is really changing the recruiting situation from as short a time ago as a decade. They might not be in Georgia's postion, but that is starting to be an excellent recruiting base.

Anyway, as always, the problem is the Gumps. They need to be broken. The other schools need to get together and say "Sniff the glove." That Alabama/Tennessee game is the albatross to making a conference with better games and geography.

One long time rivalry game goes, and the Auburn/LSU and Auburn/Florida games come back.

If Alabama and Tennessee want to keep that game, they can schedule it out of conference for most years. Most of the time it wouldn't count for conference standings, but would be interesting for fans.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

Suck it Gumps.

Edit: Meant to say "Auburn/Tennessee," not "Auburn/LSU"

Oh yeah, my prospective rivalry games (with 8 game conference schedule):

Missouri/Kentucky
Arkansas/Tennessee
Mississippi State/South Carolina
Ole Miss/Vandy
LSU/Florida
A&M/Georgia
Alabama/Auburn

That breaks up the Mississippi State/Kentucky game though. If both schools want to keep it, well I guess the road trip to Missouri isn't as bad as that A&M trip.

And Bulldogs, hey you got Hartsfield. It'll work. It'll work real good. College Station for you.

SEC will NOT go for that unless they are each other's cross-div. rival....which the Iron Bowl & TSIO prevent that.
