In fact, the main way they likely seem reputable is by paying people like Tebow to face their events.
This right here.
and he can share the love of Christ without accepting $100k in speaking fees.

That said, any Christian speaker taking tens of thousands to essentially preach should probably look into things a little more, especially if it's a new thing.
Maybe.But..where did you see that he was getting 10's of thousands of dollars? Not saying you are wrong. I just haven't seen that.
quote:Are you sure? Again, maybe they are..and if they are, then I agree with you 100%. I just have not seen this.
but these programs teach that the two go together hand in hand.
That said, I would have serious misgivings with them, too. My impression is that they are purporting themselves t be a Christian organization, and they are also giving financial advice. What I have seen is they are giving courses showing how to buy and sell properties. But, charging $20,000-$40,000 would throw up a huge red flag to me.

That said Truett Cathy, JC Penney and the owner of Hobby Lobby all professed to be Christains and seemed to live the faith. I happened to have known Truett Cathy, and several of his family members and to the last of them all seem to be very faithful to God.
quote:One of my personal favorite passages, but I honestly don't know how it applies to this situation, but you apparently know the Bible pretty well.
42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.[f] 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

I don't know. My guess would be he is far too trusting.
Probably. I hate that his reputation will be damaged by this, but he should have checked them out thoroughly. It appears as if he is now, but the damage has been done. I've known people who were close to him, and by all accounts he is the real deal. When I professed Christian gets involved with something like this it hurts him, other Christians, but more importantly Christianity as a whole.

Regardless, the most accountability he'll have is simply washing his hands of it and whatever negative publicity, if any, comes from it.

Absolutely he can. I was under the impression that he does this, too, though.

Pablo Torre looked into Life Surge, interviewed people, and reported his findings. That’s a journalist’s investigation. And thinking Tebow repeatedly headlined these events without benefiting is incredibly dense. There are links you could have clicked on in the article that point to him receiving benefits.
So you can't. Did he make money off of speaking fees? Yeah. Show me where he has made money from the scam.
There is a difference. If you work for a company and thye pay you for that work, then that company scams someone, did you profit from your work, or from the scam? Life Surge paid him to speak. If they scammed people, then I would be willing to bet that they did not share a percentage of the scammed money from him. If he was unaware that there was a scam angle, then I don't see where ha was to be blamed. Now, if he WAS aware of a scam going on and continued to speak for them, then that's a problem ethically. But, apparently he is doing an in depth look and has paused his involvement with them.

Accountable simply insofar as when the truth comes out everyone doesn't rush to defend and rationalize it. And they feel public pressure to openly denounce the bullshite.
Fair enough, and that is exactly what it appears he is doing.
quote:I don't know. Someone in this thread posted that the company received 4.6-4.7 out of 5 ratings.
But did they really ever seem so reputable? Was it just a single rogue person scamming people? Something tells me it was their entire method of operation from the top down.
quote:I have to say I am confused. Where did he rationalize it? He has people checking them out and has paused his dealings with them. Herein lies the problem with TikTok and message boards. People make wild claims and others believe those wild claims. (Not pointing fingers at you. Merely talking in general)
Not an ounce of "rationalizing it" when their name is dragged through the mud.

The program is essentially saying that if you do things their way, God's gonna bless. you and give you money.
The problem is this gets to be almost a quid pro quo type thing. I give to God and God gives back to me, like it's a transaction.
A lot of people don't realize this, but most all of the idol worship in the OT had this kind of thinking. In Baal worship, Baal and Asherah having sex would bring rain. So when there was a drought, the men would go into the Baal temple and have sex with temple prostitutes in hopes the gods would mimic and rain would come.
This is why in the Bible it's so important for them to believe Yahweh loves who he wants and does what he wants. He is not controlled by people. The idea that I just have to give to God and he will give me wealth is much more like Baal worship than Yahweh worship.
Jesus said "The poor you will always have with you."
If you believe these people, you're really doing something wrong if you're poor. If not, why hasn't God blessed you?

They don't sound like the kind of group who would never fake their own reviews.

He got paid to speak and promote a company. Had zero to do with anyone getting scammed.
I know you want to tear him down because you hate someone who is so vocal about his faith..but try harder.

I know that prosperity gospel is not true christianity and I'm not even a Christian, so how does Tim Tebow not know that?
Linking Christian faith with becoming a real estate mogul on earth is about the most antichristian thing you can come up with.
I've always thought that most people that go to church occasionally know less about the bible that they claim to believe in than the typical secular person.
I think there has been a study done that reflected that.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you posted this when it is not in the article:
Tim Tebow is being investigated for benefitting from a scam
It is clear in the article that Tim Tebow is not being investigated for making money from a scam.
Trying to be obtuse is not a shield. By making a false headline you clearly wanted people to think he was. But go ahead and deflect.

It may be. I don't know what is in the program, so I can't definitively say what is in it and what is not in it.
By the way....to your point of him making tens of thousands of dollars...you are probably right. I saw an article stating that it is likely. I will argue some points, but if I am shown I am wrong I can also admit that.

And I agree that it is wrong to make money falsely. That is clearly shown when Jesus went into the Temple and cleansed it of the money changers.
I am also very familiar with Baal and those practices.
Many people should realize that being a Christian is not protection against bad things and not a guarantee of some kind o success. Jesus was beaten, spat upon, mocked, ridiculed etc, so why in the world would we think we should have some kind of protection? There is a reason Jesus said to "...take up your cross and follow me." That at LEAST insinuates that if you are a follower of Christ that you should expect tough times.
So, I agree with you. I'm just not convinced that Tebow can be accused of this. Everything I have seen of him or heard from those who know him says otherwise. If it is found that he acted unethically, then I will be the first to say he should face the consequences.

Tim has a responsibility to examine who it is that he’s attaching his name and reputation to. As a pastor, I’ve been asked to speak at events or lend my credibility by supporting organizations, and I am very careful to look at who they are.
Perhaps Tim thought it was a chance for him to share the Gospel at a large event. I do t know. I haven’t heard his part of things.
You are correct that the organization holds responsibility before the Lord for taking advantage of people’s desperation and naivety. If we find someone’s ox wandering loose, we don’t blame them for being stupid or careless to justify keeping their animal. And we don’t use someone’s naivety or gullibility as a rationale for taking their money.
The swindlers shall not inherit the kingdom of Heaven.

The headline wasn't false. I already said there are links in the article which shows further details that the journalist is investigating him for money made from a scam. This isn't rocket science.

I do agree with this. But by all accounts the organization had a good reputation as evidenced by the positive reviews. The reviews were not perfect, obviously, but overwhelmingly positive. Out of curiosity, have you ever seen any organization, church or business that was perfect?
