Reminds me of that Steve Martin joke from the 70's

He had the perfect escape plan to avoid trouble,

"I'm sorry Officer, I didn't realize that armed robbery was against the law"

Tim just entered ADX Florence Supermax. Sad turn for a once promising life.

If you read OP's headline and thought to yourself, "That OP is pretty funny" while chuckling, you really don't need to be telling anyone to get a sense of humor.

No, I could tell from reading what was posted that ity was a silly fark.

Perhaps you should also litigate.

Seems odd to blame Tebow or the other sports people. From what I have ready, they are paid to make a speech or a talk, and that is pretty much the extent.

What ever happened to being responsible and being held accountable for one's actions?

Especially celebrities that have teams of agents to check out organizations that they're agreeing to represent?

I doubt many of these celebrities knew first hand how big of a scam it was but also didn't want to know where that big check came from when they saw it.

It's also not picking on Christians to point out crooks using people's beliefs to rip them off is about the most un-Christian thing ever.

You think he shouldn't check out what kind of businesses he receives speaking payments from?

Maybe you should run start litigation against the op ?

Haven't got a clue what you are talking about. I am fine. Tebow, on the other hand? I mean, he is fine, but if he so desired, I would think there is a clear case for slander. And, ESPN will not like to have a rep of theirs with questionable ethics, so this is the kind of thing that could hurt him.

I must have missed the laughing emojis to indicate it was a joke. As a matter of fact, I didn't see anything at all that might indicate it was anything but a serious attempt to summerize the article, which it did not. Several posters on here clearly did not read the article and thought it reflected what was in the article.

But hey. As long as you thought it was funny, no harm, right?

You assumed I meant a police investigation, then called my headline slander over something it never said. Read it again, dumbass.

So, the headline below does not say he was benefitting from a scam?

Tim Tebow is being investigated for benefitting from a scam

Mind showing me where the article said Tebow was being investigated, or that he was benefitting from a scam? I read the article and must have missed it.

Hold him accountable for giving a speech? I'm all for it. What should the penalty be for giving a speech?

I get what you are sayig, but, if you work for a company and it seems reputable, and then somebody in that company does something horrible...I mean, should you be held responsible for working for said company? I mean, they apparently have some hot shot guy investigating it, and he has not come out with any accusations against Tebow personally.

Like I have said....it's not what has happened so much as how it is handled going forward.

And there it is. Now maybe the hand wringing can stop. It always amazes me how people want to scream about somebody before getting the entire story, or seeing how it plays out...or how an individual handles the situation.

Yes, when I read the op, it struck me as humorous.

I just hope Perry Mason isn't on the op's trail !

The pious, angelic Tebow would be proud to know that there are people white knighting for his honor !

That bastion of decency, honor and chivalry shall not be be besmirched !!!!!!!

( Do you know what they say about people who can't take a joke ? )

I don't know that he knew they were knowingly giving people bad financial advice in order to pay for their service.

That said, any Christian speaker taking tens of thousands to essentially preach should probably look into things a little more, especially if it's a new thing.

Any Christian should be skeptical when Christianity is tied to wealth.

I'm not saying you can't be wealthy and also be a Christian, but these programs teach that the two go together hand in hand. It's really hard to see where that comes from.

it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God"

42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.[f] 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Pablo Torre looked into Life Surge, interviewed people, and reported his findings. That’s a journalist’s investigation. And thinking Tebow repeatedly headlined these events without benefiting is incredibly dense. There are links you could have clicked on in the article that point to him receiving benefits.

quote:

Life Surge spokesperson Richard Lorenzen declined to disclose how much Life Surge pays its speakers, but Athlete Speakers, a speakers’ bureau, [estimates]that for the biggest names—including Tebow—fees can be as high as $100,000 per appearance. In 2024 and 2025, Tebow spoke at 10 Life Surge events per year, and in 2026, he’s on track to have spoken at 20 events by year’s end—putting his estimated potential total earnings so far in the neighborhood of $2-$4 million from Life Surge alone.

Accountable simply insofar as when the truth comes out everyone doesn't rush to defend and rationalize it. And they feel public pressure to openly denounce the bullshite.

I get what you are saying, but, if you work for a company and it seems reputable, and then somebody in that company does something horrible

But did they really ever seem so reputable? Was it just a single rogue person scamming people? Something tells me it was their entire method of operation from the top down.

In fact, the main way they likely seem reputable is by paying people like Tebow to face their events.

And I have the same opinion of "celebrities old people trust" getting paid to sell them scammy bullshite. Not an ounce of "rationalizing it" when their name is dragged through the mud.

Tim Tebow has been working with them long enough that I find it hard to believe he just got wind of how they operated.

He's either:

1. Far too trusting. -or-
2. Not terribly sharp -or-
3. Standing on business. They pay him to speak. What they do with the attendees after he's done is not his business nor his concern.

Regardless, the most accountability he'll have is simply washing his hands of it and whatever negative publicity, if any, comes from it.
