tigahs don't realize Barry Switzer was born/grew only a few miles from the Louisiana line

Switzer was on the flip side of that shite town Bastrop
his dad missed his senior year of football at Crossett because he was in jail - that's about as Louisiana as somebody can get, but it was Arkansas (Louisiana having a bad influence on us)
His mom took her own life on the back porch in Crossett, and later on when he was almost getting ready to be named head coach at OU, his dad was murdered by a jealous husband of a woman his dad was banging

I have read Switzer’s autobiography (Bootlegger’s Boy) a number of times. It’s a hell of a book written shortly after he resigned from OU. IIRC, Switzer’s dad was shot by his mistress after she caught him with another woman. She then tried to drive him to the hospital and they had a wreck and both were killed.

Switzer is a Top 5 coach. Sure, his players snorted coke, walked around campus with Uzis and he left them mired in probation, but he won a lot of games.

For all his faults...Switzer grew up in that environment and still got an appointment to the Naval Academy. Which he turned down to play football for Arkansas.
His little brother graduated from Dartmouth and got a Vandy Law degree.

No one has ever inherited better situations than Switzer. Oklahoma in 1973 and the Dallas Cowboys in 1994 are about as good as it gets.
He won a lot of games at OU. He certainly had Tom Osborne’s number. But he never had to build anything.
