A lot of LSU fans give him shite, but he was a true sophomore.
With better coaching(could have stayed at LSU and got this), I think he could turn into a really good player.
I was not a fan of his transferring, but I think it was inevitable that we would lose a qb or 2. What makes it even worse is we really needed his brother at TE.

a "work in progress." Talented, but not a quick decison maker. Very big guy who probably dominated in HS so he still has habits where he stays in the pocket too long and SEC guys cream him.

Jimbo has always liked a pure pocket passer for his offense.
He needs one but he usually recruits dual threat guys for some reason.
No one knows why.

not sour grapes because he left but i'm thinking he didn't strengthen your qb room. he had a bad habit of moving backwards and throwing off the back foot. maybe that can be fixed but i wasn't sad to see him go. he made a handful of nice plays but couldn't be trusted.
on a positive, he has plenty SEC experience and shouldn't be overwhelmed by the moment. our coaching has been suspect at best so maybe one of your coaches can polish him up

He has had some good moments to be sure. Just needs experience, patience and the pocket.

No hate for Max, as he represented LSU well, but his brother was a bigger loss.

He got scared and blindly tossed a ball over his shoulder against UCLA

He’s a solid QB. Tough af. Took a lot of hits behind a shite oline
Won’t win you a conference championship but can get you to 8-9 wins

Was he projected to be third string at LSU And that is why he bolted
Or do y’all think he was a pretty solid qb and possibly needs to further develop?
Made some incredible throws, but started scrambling way too soon. Was a head scratcher as to why he left, but I'd bet he wasn't too keen on Coach K coming in and tightening things up.
Also, I think big bad Brad said if you want my other son (TE) you have to take Max.

After watching him last season I noted the following issues
Weak arm. Could not hit the long ball.
Holds ball too long. May be an experience thing that will improve.
Had trouble with pass protection calls but again can improve with experience and/or scheme.
My biggest issue with him was his lack of awareness when scrambling out of the pocket. I dont know how many times he ran OOB several yds short of the sticks and had no contact. I never figured out if he was told to avoid all contact or not. We only had one more QB on the roster who was obviously RS'g

He has, possibly, the worst pocket awareness I’ve ever seen from a SEC QB.
He did make some great throws at times though and our WRs had some drops. Playcalling also didn’t help.
Nevertheless, he was more bad than good.

Watch the 4th Quarter from LSU's win against A&M and that is a microcosm of his season. Will stay in the pocket too long not feeling pressure, make average/above average throws most of the time, and occasionally make a terrific throw. I would say Max is a serviceable QB in the SEC, average to above average in athleticism above average in the mental game, which is a bit surprising considering his dad.

He is left handed and the ball spins backwards
