It's not just AU fans.
All of my Bama friends disagree with the decision and aren't happy with the BOT. Hell, there were Bama football players showing their support for UAB on twitter.

Many of the high and mighty will learn when they get out of high school or college that there is a real world and you just can't lose money year after year unless you are brain of Obama.

If this is true, and I'm assuming it is. Why isn't there a much larger backlash after news came down that UAB football was getting the axe? I no longer live in Alabama so I don't quite have my finger on the pulse of the state that I once did. I did however text my buddy who is a Birmingham native and UAB alum to ask what he felt about it, he didn't care. If it's such a detriment to not only the city but also the state how can so many people just stand by and allow it to happen?
A lot of people are very pissed, but the problem is what do you do? What is the recourse to the Alabama BOT or President Watts? There is no mechanism for accountability. Whose going to get involved? Governor Bentley? The good doctor from Tuscaloosa. He's definitely itching to tussle with the BOT...
And I didn't even mention earlier that this will cause UAB to lose their Conference USA status. It will kill college athletics at UAB. How or why is that a good thing?

Maybe people can rally support together for protest, or donations. A show of solidarity from the 15k UAB allegedly averaged for games would do an awful lot to open the eyes of the BOT. I'd imagine if enough politicians get up and fight for UAB publicly it would put some amount of pressure on the BOT.
Then again, maybe satellite campuses located in an already bankrupt city just aren't meant for division 1 sports.

This will get lost in the shuffle I'm sure, but I'll tell you what really pisses me off about the whole UAB deal:
There are some good kids in this state that are good football players but not quite good enough to play at Auburn or Alabama. UAB's football team provided these kids an opportunity to play football at the next level, at a D-1 school & get an education. Now these kids will have to find another school to further their education and continue to play football. Most likely a place further from home/family. This hurts kids/families in the state of Alabama.
The loss of jobs related to the football program bothers me as well.

You also gotta spend money to make money, and uat was not about to do that for uab.

But why is it ok to lose money?
this narrative is so old and tired. do you realize how many D-1 programs operate in the red every single year? Nearly half of them.

This is complete BS. First of all what the University of Alabama does within their organization is none of your business, and we certainly don't tell your board of directors how to handle AUM.
No one on this board is honestly going to believe that Auburn fans have moved on from the Iron Bowl. You wouldn't let us, so believe me, we won't let you.

So, because other mid majors are drowning, UAB should drown too?
So should we just axe half of the D-1 football programs? Should we just let those other programs "drown" too?

It's the business of any tax paying citizen of the state of Alabama actually. I don't fall into that category, but your argument is pretty ignorant.

If you are losing as much money as UAB is, you should not be in the FBS. They should drop to the FCS at the very least. That will cut a lot of the costs. I've been under the impression for a long time that there's too many FBS teams.

It seems like you assume that public bodies don't just do dumb shite for illogical reasons all the time...."If it was dumb they wouldn't let them do it."...There is no they though. That is the problem. No accountability...
UAB is the largest employer in the state and has 18,000 students. The only reason that it can't work as a full fledged independent university of its own is if the BOT does not allow it.

I do support UAB - I'd rather they have a decent football stadium and program.
I just doubt the implied altruism of fans *HERE*.

How do you people sleep with the genocide of athletic programs occurring on your behalf

Is one of the most creative, imaginative things I've ever seen on this website. Get all the talk off the actual game played between two SEC opponents and use the collapse of a floundering in state program as a vehicle to climb that mountain of moral superiority even higher, while at the same time casting UA and their evil BOT as petty, cowardice children throwing a temper tantrum.
Hats off to Auburn. I'm impressed.

I just wanted to post in here to laugh at the Bama fans who are laughing at the Auburn fans who are laughing at the Bama fan's faux outrage over Auburn fan's faux outrage over shutting down a financially defunct program. It's been fun.
I do hate it for the players and coaches who won't get picked up elsewhere, but other than that it doesn't affect my daily life so no big deal. Just business.

One of the better martyr posts I've seen. Kudos to you sir.

Well..... The Birmingham media sure is giving the BOT and UAB President hell this morning. Even Lars Anderson, current UAT journalism professor is saying its a sham. He said on JOX this morning that the "study" was basically an agenda driven document designed to get rid of the football program.
I'm assuming the Bama fans defending this are either not Birmingham residents, trolls, or BOT water boys.

My thoughts on it. It sure has given the Rant some new material though.
