I wouldn’t call it simple. The question is whether the difference between a Top 5 schedule excuses a loss when compared to an undefeated team with a bottom 10 Power 5 schedule. Which we can argue all day about

I think this is the actual debate.

Do you reward FSU for going undefeated, or punish them for having a weak schedule?

Do you look at that schedule and think, “You don’t have to be one of the top 4 teams in the country to go undefeated against it?”

Alabama beat LSU, same as FSU - only difference is that LSU was the best team FSU played but were about the 4th best that Alabama played.

Or, conversely, do you punish teams for playing tougher schedules? Do you admit that Alabama would have been undefeated if, instead of Texas, they had played BYU? In that scenario do you leave out Texas for their loss to Oklahoma, even though the same SOS argument remains when you compare FSU and Alabama?

The biggest problem is that the committee instead said, “You’re out because your QB is hurt.”
Which translates to, “We don’t want another TCU.”

Yes, they would have. They would have found another excuse.

We lost to a literal playoff team. FSU didn't beat or even play anyone all year as good as Texas.

True, but Texas jumping everyone is just as much of a headscratcher.

If we ran this process at varying points in time throughout the season, neither Alabama nor Texas would merit inclusion. I can't imagine any of those voters interested in Bama after the Iron Bowl. I can't imagine any of those voters interested in Texas after they were saved from a near loss against Houston by incompetent refs and then barely squeaked by TCU and K-State.

It all boiled down to a bunch of 70 year old dudes sitting around a conference room and reviewing the last few weeks of tape and then citing vague, qualitative and often conflicting rules to justify their random choices.

No one should think it is smart or correct or right or insightful or clever or whatever.

Thank Goodness the whole thing is being shut down next year.

So Texas should've been the team left out? How in the frick do you figure that? He have pretty close strength of scheduling. We both won conference championship, and what else is in the criteria, what is it. I can't put my finger on it. Oh yea it's head to head. We beat you. So please state your case as to why bama deserves to go before Texas does.

I think the argument against Texas (and it is a zany one as are all) is that the committee had you guys at 7 pretty much the entire way and then had to go wallop other 1 loss teams to make room for you.

Did Georgia really deserve to drop to 6th from 1st? Did Ohio State really deserve to drop from 2nd to 7th because they lost to the #3 team in the country?

You all finished strong so I get it, but I also see that any team could have been left out this year based on how the committee approached it all. It was totally random and vague.

There's not much difference between 12-1 and 11-2 either. Just a back-up punt returner's feet slipping on one play for a 6 win team is the only reason any of the discussions of the last 48 hours have even taken place to start with.

Ask Georgia fans if there is much difference. Seems like night and day for them.

So you just overlook the fact that a team, Louisville, that averaged 29 points a game for the season, was held to just two field goals? Defense can win ballgames also and the fact that the second string qb would have been back for the playoffs, after getting in three weeks of reps, would give FSU more than a formidible chance in the game.

It appears the committee said the third string qb would be starting again in the playoff game.

Total bs.

Why do all the Bama posters keep posting justification. Do they feel guilty? Does anyone even care? Bama is in, the playoff format changes next year anyway.

Talk about the matchups or something different.

In my best Sam McCloud voice - thar ya go. And since Bama got in, the committee had to get Texas in there above Bama. No way a seven and eight ranked team both should leapfrog an undefeated #4 team. Second string qbs do win games. Sometimes a champioship. Right, Bama fans.

A 12-1 Bama team getting in over a 13-0 Florida St team is a complete joke and doesn't make any sense no matter how hard you try to justify it.

It does when Bama beat Georgia and FSU beat Louisville.

and pretending his committee can predict the future.

FSU with QB2 was supposed to lose to Florida. FSU with QB3 was supposed to lose to Louisville. Georgia with Brock Bowers back was supposed to beat Alabama. None of those happened.

It sucks for FSU, but Alabama did not take FSU's place, they took Georgia's.
